With the six classes in Space Marine 2, there are plenty of niche situations you can find yourself in. This Space Marine 2 class tier list will focus on what classes you should consider playing for Operations and PvP alike. Note that all classes are viable and some classes are not as popular as others, which will factor in various niches so don’t worry too much about picking a main to play.

Space Marine 2 Class Tier List

Below is a tier list featuring both game modes for each class. The general premise is that most classes are balanced, and all can perform exceptionally well. However, in some situations and playstyles, it may suffer, so think of the ratings as laws of averages type thing or what it can peak at, depending on the class.

Class Operations Eternal War
Assault B A+
Bulwark A B+
Heavy S B
Sniper A S
Tactical A S
Vanguard B+ S

We’ll go into detail on each class below with some reasoning for our decisions below. Also, consider pairing this guide up with our best weapons in Space Marine 2.

The Assault is all about diving in and dealing significant melee damage, making them strong for horde control, burst and PvP ambushes.

Assault

Assault is a class that specialises in two things. Huge slamming damage, mobility and AOE. Assaults often take the Thunder Hammer, making them hit-and-run specialists picking key targets in both modes. Operations offer them more risk since they often slam into swarms or into elites. If they choose their timing wrong it can be an issue, but more often the Assault performs well for those key burst moments in outdoor areas. However, a skilled player in PvP uses the movement and jetpack to avoid hits very well and assassinate key targets. These often counter Snipers, Heavy and Bulwark players. Better-skilled players can take the Assault to S+ if they master the maps and movements.

The Bulwark ranks fairly high in Space Marine 2 class tier list for its frontline power in Operations, and objective and map holding in PvP.

Bulwark

Bulwark players are the tanky warriors. The general idea is the Bulwark in Operations is an effective class for holding the line with their armour and shield banner. Placing their shield up also counters a lot of the ranged Tyranid Warrior too. So, there are a lot of options for the Bulwark to control key areas in Operations. Throw in tankier builds or more melee-oriented DPS and they can be effective too.

However, for PvP, the Bulwark is a great class for holding key objectives or areas of the map down. They’ll likely need support against Vanguard or Assaults, but they can pressure and deny most ranged-themed classes. It all depends on map knowledge that makes Bulwarks effective in PvP.

The Heavy uses extremely powerful weapons to melt through hordes or deal significantly strong burst damage with their weapons.

Heavy

The Heavy is a fantastic class in Operations  The Heavy Bolter does its job of holding hordes back, or ploughing into elites in the swarms, depending on what they need to do. They can also take a loadout for boss maps, with the likes of Multi-Meltas able to absolutely burst through bosses like the Hive Tyrant. Most maps have drop pods that offer loadout switches, especially before key objectives like the boss. So, switch your weapon and watch as you shred bosses. So, Heavvys are a key to Operation success in all modes.

In PvP modes, the Heavy can go any weapon they want and do decently. The ability to deny ranged attacks is also handy for counter Tacticals and Snipers. Just be careful that melee classes counter heavy players hard. The heavy wind-ups of the bolter and plasma weapons can be easily beaten by well-timed Assault or Bulwark players. Most of the time Bulwarks can tank your damage with the shield.

The Las Fusil is the best sniper weapon for Operations and Campaign for its devasting damage and easy to use against predictable AI opponents.

Snipers

A Sniper’s job in Operations is to assassinate key threats in swarms. Their playstyle makes them very bursty, and so, naturally, they want to pick off big targets. Snipers will have a role in any team for taking down annoying sniper enemies, the Sorcerers, charging Elites with their guards down, and other such enemies. They instead suffer from dealing with swarms and bosses. It’s something to consider when playing the class that you’re team can deal with hordes or bosses alike.

In PvP Snmipers can be an S Tier class, countered largely by Assault players or Bulwarks. However, an aware sniper can often easily pop an Assault before it comes crashing down on them. Playing the right map objectives is also a strong way to mitigate sniper mistakes. So, get the spot with aerial cover, and watch key map areas to get the most out of the class.

The Tactical Marine is a master of versatility and can be changed easily to fill any gaps in teams or multiplayer modes.

Tactical

Tactical Marines are the most adaptive class in the game. In Operations, you’ll find that you can use any weapon for whatever your comp[osition is missing. Need close range, go the close-range SMG bolter. Need more burst? a Heavy Rifle Bolter is an option. In PvP, adaptability helps them play however they want to play too. So, the flexibility for maps and enemy class variety helps the Tactical feel, well, tactical.

The Vanguard is a melee DPS assassin type class, best used to defeat elites or huge blows to bosses.

Vangaurd

The Vanguard is a class that is about being closer ange and jumping on target. The hook shot pulls them into danger where they want to swing melee or use close-range weapons to mow back enemies. In operations, they are largely boss killers or Swarm melters. Use weapons like Melta Rifles to destroy the swarms or bosses, but do be careful of your low base armour value of 2, as there are risks to Vanguard in Operartins, especially dense swarms on harder modes.

Meanwhile, in PvP, the Vanguard is a class that can counter a lot of enemies when played well.  The Hook shot can deny a lot of classes, and allow them to close gaps on ranged foes. Moving around tactically will help a lot on maps so you don’t repeatedly walk out and die on the map. But when you can learn the map correctly, the class will have its high moments. In poor hands, the Vanguard can be the worst class, but in smart hands, it can be an effective class.
