On a standard 8x8 chessboard, each piece possesses a magnetic polarity, either positive or negative, denoted by a colored magnet embedded within its base.

Movement and Attraction

The movement rules of Magnet Chess mirror those of standard chess, with each piece type adhering to its specific pattern of movement. However, the magnetic polarities introduce a unique twist. Pieces of opposite polarities are drawn towards each other, while pieces of the same polarity repel each other.

This magnetic interaction significantly alters the game's strategy and tactics. Pieces can be used to shield or support one another, creating powerful alliances and impenetrable barriers. For example, a positively charged knight can be placed adjacent to a negatively charged rook, effectively anchoring the rook in place and preventing it from being captured.

Attractive Captures

Captures in Magnet Chess follow a distinct set of rules. When a piece captures an opposing piece of the same polarity, it instantly "swallows" the captured piece, removing it from the board. However, if a piece captures an opposing piece of opposite polarity, the capturing piece remains on the square while the captured piece is repelled and removed from the board.
