Mills, also known as Nine Men's Morris, is a classic strategy board game for two players. The game is played on a board consisting of 24 intersections connected by lines. Each player starts with nine pieces, typically black and white. The primary objective is to form "mills," which are three of your own pieces in a row along a line on the board. When a player forms a mill, they can remove one of their opponent's pieces from the board, provided that piece is not part of a mill itself, unless no other pieces are available.

The game proceeds in three phases: placing pieces, moving pieces, and flying. In the placing phase, players alternate placing their pieces one at a time on any empty intersection. Each time a player forms a mill during this phase, they remove an opponent's piece. Once all eighteen pieces have been placed, the moving phase begins. Players now take turns moving one of their pieces to an adjacent empty intersection along a line. Again, forming a mill allows the player to remove an opponent's piece.

The game continues until one player is reduced to only two pieces, in which case they cannot form any more mills and lose the game, or until a player is blocked and unable to make any legal moves. Once a player is reduced to three pieces, they enter the "flying" phase. In this phase, they can move any of their pieces to any empty intersection on the board, regardless of adjacency. This gives the player with only three pieces a significant advantage. Strategic play involves blocking opponents, creating multiple mill opportunities, and managing the number of pieces to avoid being forced into the flying phase prematurely. Mills is a game of careful planning and tactical execution.
