Man Proposes is the 6th DLC side quest in the Brushes With Death expansion of Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Man Proposes DLC side quest.
- Starting Location: Kuttenberg Region > Kuttenberg
- Quest Giver: Master Voyta (Enigmatic Painter)
- Requirement: Own Brushes With Death DLC and finished The Night-Mare.
- Reward:
Curiosity Killed the Cat trophy/achievement (if Libor hangs himself), Shield Symbol: Sword in saltire, Player XP
- Quest Type: Side Quest
- Quest Description: I wanted to learn more about the painter, but instead of telling me, he sent me to some dugout near Maleshov. He said I should take a look around, take in the atmosphere, then come and tell him what I saw.
- DLC Required: Brushes With Death
Starting Location: Man Proposes
After finishing the quest The Night-Mare, you can talk to the quest giver again immediately to get this quest. To gain reputation say this:
“I’d like to know about your past” > “Go on” > “You don’t have to tell me anything” (Reputation+) > “Very well, I’ll go” (Reputation+) -> Man Proposes quest
The quest is available regardless of whether you killed or scared Bellissimo in the previous quest.
Find the dugout Voyta mentioned
You need to go to the woods south-west of Kuttenberg. If you’ve been to the area before you can fast travel to Melshov and go from there. As soon as you approach the location, the objective will update.
Talk to the person living in the dugout
At the dugout location you find a man, it’s best to make a save before approaching him, as he’ll turn hostile and there’s a missable trophy/achievement coming up. When ready, approach and try to talk to him.
He will draw his sword and start to attack you.
Sort out the situation with the aggressive man in the dugout
You have to defeat the aggressive man. It’s fine to use weapons such as swords to hurt him. After he takes enough damage he will surrender. Now he can be talked to.
Talk to the person living in the dugout
MISSABLE TROPHY/ACHIEVEMENT: Curiosity Killed the Cat (If you hadn’t poked around Libor wouldn’t be swinging)
For this trophy you must accept the broken sword from the mad man, reforge it, and return it to him. Follow the next steps here exactly before proceeding with other story objectives.
Pick the following dialogues: “Why were you so hostile?” > “(Say Nothing)” > “(Say Nothing)” > “Very well, I’ll take it” (he gives you Madman’s broken sword).
For the trophy, you’ll now have to go to a blacksmith and reforge the sword yourself. You can find blacksmiths in Kuttenberg. You need 1x Fastening Material + 3x Frankfurt Steel. If you don’t have these, you can buy them from the blacksmiths.
When you’re done crafting, you will receive Madman’s longsword.
Now return to the mad man at the dugout. If you haven’t done the next objective yet, it should still be marked with the “D” objective. Talk to him and say:
- “I fixed your broken sword”
- “The sword belongs to you, you should keep it”
- Must win skill check “Face your fears and take it” (hard Speech Skill check – confirmed to succeed at 22 speech – needed for trophy)
- “What actually happened to you?”
- “What does the sword have to do with all this”
- “How did they kill your friend?”
- “You mentioned some names”
- “So you don’t know painter Voyta?”
- “Why do you live here?”
- “Burkhard is dead”
The man will stop talking to you. Go to Maleshov (next town to the south-west) and skip time for 24 hours. Then ride back to the dugout. You will see the mad man hung himself from the tree. When you get close there will be an /
prompt in the bottom right corner that says “Hanged Man” to investigate further which will zoom in on him. Upon doing this the trophy/achievement
Curiosity Killed the Cat will unlock.
Note: I tested skipping time while near the dugout and that didn’t work. It seems you have to get far enough away before skipping time. If you skipped the trophy during this quest, what worked for some players is to come back later with the repaired sword, knock the mad man unconscious and put the repaired sword in his inventory, then rest 24h in Maleshov and return and he should’ve hanged himself. He just needs the repaired sword in his inventory to hang himself, regardless of whether you give it to him in dialogue or place it on his body.
Investigate the dugout and its surroundings
After the mad man hung himself and you obtained the trophy, you can proceed to investigate the objects around the dugout. Investigating 3 of these is sufficient to advance the objective, but it’s better to check all:
- Hanged Man / Noose – if you did the trophy you already investigated the hanged man (if you skipped the trophy there will be the noose hanging from tree)
- Wolf’s heart on a plate – inside the hut across from the bed
- Rotting Roof – check side of the hut
- Broken Wagon – behind the tree
- Scarecrow with an anthill – to the right side of the hut
- Latrine – the hole behind the hut where the path leads
Talk to Voyta
Return to Voyta in Kuttenberg where the quest started.
Potential Prerequisite for Confessor trophy/achievement: during the dialogue be sure to stick to these exact choices, which will be available if you unlocked
Curiosity Killed the Cat. It’s unclear which (if any) of these choices are absolutely mandatory to earn the trophy, but this is what I picked and unlocked
Confessor at the end of the next quest God Disposes (it won’t unlock during the current quest). So this is what’s confirmed and recommended:
- “I went to the dugout”
- “The place is a wreck”
- “There’s a scarecrow on an anthill”
- “There was a ruined wagon”
- “He mentioned you and Burkhard”
- “That’s an awful lot of coincidences” (SPEECH SKILL CHECK – EASY)
- “Who was the real Voyta?”
- “So you’re not Voyta?”
- “Did you know Libor lives in the dugout?”
- “Why did you send me to the dugout?”
- “Why do you blame yourself?”
- “So the thing with Burkhard was vengeance?”
- “What is it?” -> starts God Disposes quest
- “Where is it?”
- “That must have been awful for you” (Reputation+)
- “I still don’t know where the grave is”
- “Is that how you introduce yourself to others?”
- “The grave! Where is it?”
- (Say nothing)
- “Why haven’t you been there in so long?”
- “What should I say in the prayer?”
- (Say nothing)
- “Do you want to go with me?”
- “Alright, I’ll go there”.
It’s revealed that the painter isn’t actually called Voyta. The real Voyta was his friend, who was killed by Burkhard. Our painter friend buried the real Voyta and took his name for himself.
Immediately after the conversation, talk to the painter again and tell him that Libor hung himself (must’ve done Curiosity Killed the Cat).
- “Libor hung himself”
- “You don’t, but you really should know”
- “I’ll let you grieve”
After this he will refuse to talk for 24-48 hours, but you can simply pass time when you need to talk to him again.
This finishes Man Proposes quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Brushes with Death DLC.
