Gathering bones in Monster Hunter Wilds is essential to building the best weapons and armor for you and your Palico. If you want to survive in the wilds, you will need to bone up on monster parts.

However, as with ores, there is a huge variety of bones in Monster Hunter Wilds — from the old reliable Quality Bone, to biome-specific ones like the Frozen Icebone.

It doesn’t take a Researcher to point out that you won’t find a Frozen Icebone deep in the Oilwell Basin where everything is on fire… Additionally, the item description for these more obvious ones often calls out the biome they hail from.

However, some bones are more difficult to find than others, which is where this guide comes in. This page covers where to get each bone in Monster Hunter Wilds by location within Low Rank and High Rank.

What are bones in Monster Hunter Wilds?

Unsurprisingly, bones are what’s left of monsters when they die. There are two ways to get these in Monster Hunter Wilds: find a Bonepile and pilfer it from a long-dead monster, or find a monster that is soon to be dead and exact swift justice on it for still being alive.

Bones are just one of several things you will need to build weapons and armor for you and your Palico. The other components to look out for are ores and, of course, monster parts. Naturally, there is some overlap between bones and monster parts.

Bonepiles all look the same, no matter your biome, so keep an eye on your mini map for the bone icon and the obvious piles of bones in the overworld.

As with previous games, you will get three bones per Bonepile provided you keep gathering. And, as with previous games, if you’re specifically after bones, you can use your map to locate Bonepiles. If you set them as a waypoint, you can hop on your trusty Seikret and autopilot your way there.

Low rank bone locations list

Everything in Monster Hunter Wilds can be split into Low Rank and High Rank. Low Rank Monsters are easier to subdue than High Rank Monsters, and Low Rank bones are, understandably, more common than those you can only find once you unlock High Rank.

Anything marked as Rarity 4 or 5 can be found at Low Rank.

High rank bone locations list

Once you unlock High Rank, the list of bones you can pick up expands significantly. However, since you can collect Rarity 4 and 5 bones amongst the High Rank bones, their rarity becomes much more noticeable.

Be aware that while some Low Rank and High Rank monsters share monster parts (particularly tails), most do not. If you are looking for a Ridge, for example, you will need to fight a Low Rank monster, not a High Rank one, which will drop a Ridge+.
