Introduction
Three Kingdoms Big 2, also known as Big Two, is a popular Chinese card game played with a special deck of 52 cards. It is similar to the game "Hearts," but with additional rules and variations. This guide will provide a comprehensive overview of the game, including its rules, strategies, and common variations.
Game Setup
Players: 4 players in two partnerships.
Deck: A special deck of 52 cards, consisting of 13 cards in each of the four suits (spades, hearts, diamonds, and clubs) and two jokers.
Ranking of Cards:
- Joker (highest)
- 2 (second highest)
- Ace
- King
- Queen
- Jack
- 10
- 9
- 8
- 7
- 6
- 5
- 4
- 3 (lowest)
Gameplay
1. Dealing: The dealer shuffles the deck and deals 13 cards to each player.
2. Bidding: Starting with the player to the left of the dealer, each player bids on the number of tricks they believe they can take. The minimum bid is 2, and the maximum bid is 13.
3. Playing: The player with the highest bid leads with a card. The other players must follow suit if possible. If they cannot follow suit, they can play any card, including a joker or a 2.
4. Tricks: The player who plays the highest card of the suit led wins the trick. If a joker or a 2 is played, the player who played it wins the trick regardless of the other cards played.
5. Scoring: At the end of each round, each partnership counts the number of tricks they took. If they take exactly the number of tricks they bid, they score 10 points. If they take more tricks than they bid, they score 5 points for each extra trick. If they take fewer tricks than they bid, they lose 10 points for each trick they failed to take.
6. Winning: The first partnership to reach 100 points wins the game.
Special Rules
* Jokers: Jokers are wild cards and can represent any card. They are the highest-ranking cards in the game.
* 2s: 2s are also wild cards, but they can only represent cards of the same suit. They are the second highest-ranking cards in the game.
* Doubles and Triples: When two or three cards of the same rank are played together, they form a double or triple, respectively. Doubles and triples are stronger than single cards and can beat other cards of the same rank.
* Finesse: If a player has a double or triple and plays it before any other cards of that rank have been played, they are said to have "finessed" the trick. Finessed tricks count double in scoring.
* Shooting the Moon: If a player bids 13 and takes all 13 tricks, they "shoot the moon" and earn a bonus of 26 points.
Variations
There are numerous variations of Three Kingdoms Big 2, including:
* No Jokers: This variation removes the jokers from the deck.
* Lowball: In this variation, the goal is to take as few tricks as possible.
* Double Finesse: This variation allows players to finesse doubles and triples multiple times in a row.
Strategies
* Count the cards: Keep track of which cards have been played and which cards are still in the deck.
* Lead with your strongest cards: Start by playing your highest-ranking cards or doubles and triples.
* Save your jokers and 2s: Jokers and 2s are valuable cards, so use them wisely.
* Communicate with your partner: Use subtle cues to indicate which cards you have and which cards you need.
* Don't be afraid to bid high: If you have a strong hand, don't be afraid to bid high and go for the win.
