Gin Rummy is a two-player card game played with a standard 52-card deck. The goal of the game is to be the first player to meld all of their cards into melds, which can be sets (three or four of a kind) or runs (three or more cards in sequence in the same suit).

Gameplay

The game begins with each player being dealt 10 cards. The remaining cards are placed face down in a pile called the stock. One card is turned face up next to the stock to start the discard pile.

On their turn, a player can either draw a card from the stock or the discard pile, or they can meld cards from their hand. If a player draws a card from the stock, they must discard one card from their hand to the discard pile.

To meld cards, a player must have at least three cards of the same rank or three cards in sequence in the same suit. Melds can be laid face up on the table, or they can be kept hidden in the player's hand.

Gin

A player can "go gin" if they have all of their cards melded. If a player goes gin, they automatically win the game.

Knocking

A player can also "knock" if they have at least 10 points worth of unmatched cards in their hand. If a player knocks, they must discard their unmatched cards to the discard pile. The other player then has one more turn to draw a card and meld their cards. If the other player cannot meld all of their cards, they lose the game.

Scoring

If a player goes gin, they win 25 points. If a player knocks and their opponent cannot meld all of their cards, they win 10 points. If a player knocks and their opponent melds all of their cards, they lose 10 points.

The game continues until one player reaches 100 points. The first player to reach 100 points wins the game.

Strategy

There are many different strategies that can be used to play Gin Rummy. Some of the most common strategies include:

* Drawing cards: It is important to draw cards that will help you to meld your cards. If you have a lot of high cards, you should try to draw low cards. If you have a lot of low cards, you should try to draw high cards.

* Melding cards: It is important to meld your cards as soon as possible. This will give you more points and make it more difficult for your opponent to win.

* Going gin: Going gin is the best way to win the game. However, it is important to make sure that you have all of your cards melded before you go gin. If you do not, you could lose the game.

* Knocking: Knocking is a good way to win the game if you have a lot of unmatched cards in your hand. However, it is important to make sure that you have at least 10 points worth of unmatched cards before you knock. If you do not, you could lose the game.
