Use a 14 card to quickly spread out cards to all your opponents!
The Whot deck comprises five suits: Circles, Triangles, Squares, Stars, and Crosses, each numbered 1 to 14, with the exception of number 8, which is not represented. Additionally, the deck includes four special Whot cards, numbered 20, which hold significant power and strategic value.
Gameplay revolves around matching the previously played card either by number or suit. For instance, if a Circle 5 is played, the next player must play either another Circle card or any card with the number 5. This core mechanic forms the foundation of Whot Cards, requiring players to constantly assess their hand and anticipate their opponents' moves.
The strategic depth of Whot Cards arises from the special cards and their unique effects. The Whot 20 card, the game's namesake, grants the player the power to demand any card from the next player. This can be a game-changer, allowing players to strategically acquire specific cards to complete sets or disrupt their opponents' plans.
Other special cards introduce further layers of complexity. The Circle 2 acts as a "Hold On" card, preventing the next player from taking their turn. This can be used defensively to stall an opponent's progress or offensively to set up a powerful play. The Circle 5, often referred to as the "Pick Two" card, forces the next player to draw two cards from the draw pile, potentially disrupting their hand and slowing them down.
The Circle 8, while not present in the deck, is called upon when a player plays the Circle 14. The player playing the Circle 14 declares a suit, and the next player must play a card of the declared suit. If they cannot, they must continue drawing cards until they either draw a card of the declared suit or exhaust the draw pile.
The Circle 1 acts as a "General Market," requiring all other players to draw one card from the draw pile. This can be a disruptive move, forcing opponents to reassess their strategies and potentially hindering their progress.
Winning a game of Whot Cards requires a combination of skillful card play, strategic thinking, and a bit of luck. Knowing when to hold onto valuable cards, when to play strategically, and when to disrupt your opponents is crucial for success. The ability to anticipate your opponents' moves and adapt to changing circumstances is also essential.
The game progresses with players taking turns, playing cards according to the matching rules, and drawing cards when necessary. The first player to successfully play all the cards in their hand wins the round. Multiple rounds can be played, with points awarded based on the cards remaining in each player's hand at the end of each round.
Whot Cards offers a dynamic and engaging gameplay experience, suitable for players of all ages. The simple rules are easy to learn, yet the strategic depth provides endless opportunities for skillful play. Whether playing casually with friends and family or competitively in tournaments, Whot Cards offers a captivating blend of luck and strategy that keeps players coming back for more. The game's popularity continues to grow, cementing its place as a beloved card game in Nigeria and beyond.
