This duck lays another egg, from which another common duck emerges. After that, these two ducks lay more eggs, and so on, filling your screen with ducks. Every so often, a duck is born with some kind of deformity or mutation. These mutations can occur in the head, body, or wings, resulting in a common, rare, epic, or legendary trait depending on its rarity.

Soon enough, you will have too many ducks on the screen, so you'll have to start throwing some down the hole. The idea is to get rid of the most common ducks, keeping rare mutations that can be passed on when they lay eggs.
