Gameplay

Belote is a trick-taking card game played with a deck of 32 cards. The game is played between two teams of two players each. The goal of the game is to be the first team to reach 1000 points.

Each player is dealt eight cards. The player to the left of the dealer leads with any card. The other players must follow suit if possible. If a player cannot follow suit, they may play any card. The highest card of the suit led wins the trick.

The team that wins the trick leads the next one. The game continues until all 32 cards have been played.

Scoring

The team that wins the trick scores the following points:

* 10 points for a trick with a belote (a king and a queen of the same suit)

* 5 points for a trick with a capot (all four tricks)

* 1 point for each other trick

Coinche

Coinche is a special bid that a player can make when they have a strong hand. A player can coinche before the first trick is played. If the player's team wins the game, they score double points. If the player's team loses the game, they lose double points.

Contrée

Contrée is a special bid that a player can make when they have a very strong hand. A player can contrée before the first trick is played. If the player's team wins the game, they score triple points. If the player's team loses the game, they lose triple points.
