Tonk is a classic card game that combines strategy, skill, and a touch of luck. It is played with a standard 52-card deck and can be enjoyed by 2 to 4 players. The objective of the game is to be the first player to meld all of their cards into melds, which are sets of three or more cards of the same rank or runs of three or more cards in sequence.

Gameplay

1. Deal: The dealer shuffles the deck and deals 11 cards to each player. The remaining cards are placed face down in the center of the table to form the draw pile.

2. Play: The player to the left of the dealer goes first. On their turn, they must draw a card from either the draw pile or the top of the discard pile. They can then meld any combination of cards from their hand that meets the meld requirements.

3. Melds: Melds can be either sets or runs. A set consists of three or more cards of the same rank, such as three Aces or four Kings. A run consists of three or more cards in sequence, such as 5-6-7 or Jack-Queen-King.

4. Laying Off: Once a player has melded a set or run, they can "lay off" additional cards to the melds that have already been played. For example, if a player has melded a set of three Aces, they can lay off any additional Aces they draw.

5. Going Tonk: A player "goes tonk" when they have melded all of the cards in their hand. The first player to go tonk wins the game.

Scoring

If a player does not go tonk, the game ends when the draw pile is exhausted. The players then count the points in their hands. Each unmatched card is worth its face value (Aces are worth 1, Jacks, Queens, and Kings are worth 10). The player with the lowest score wins the game.

Variations

There are several variations of Tonk, including:

* Oklahoma Tonk: In this variation, players can meld cards to their own melds or to the melds of other players.

* Dutch Tonk: In this variation, players can meld cards to their own melds or to the melds of other players, but they cannot lay off additional cards to melds that have already been played.

* Rummy Tonk: This variation combines elements of Tonk and Rummy. Players can meld cards to their own melds or to the melds of other players, and they can also draw cards from the discard pile.
