In Ghost of Yotei you must find 10 Special Place Locations for the Speaking with the Land trophy. This guide shows the Special Places you need to earn the trophy.
What makes Special Places unique from other Collectibles is that they are not marked on the map.
The Special Places have a “bowing-down sign” in front of them. It looks like this:
Once you are at such a sign, you must wipe down on the Touchpad. This will make you bow down. When done correctly, it should trigger an effect in the world, such as insects flying around you, birds appearing, fish jumping in the water etc.
They are found at fixed positions in the open world and will be available at all times. None of the Special Places are missable! You can still find them after the story in free-roam.
There are definitely more to find but you only need 10 for the purpose of the “Speaking with the Land” trophy. They don’t unlock anything other than the trophy and don’t even count as proper Collectibles on the in-game tracker. Some even count as Special Places without having the “bowing-down sign”, e.g. several graffitis on walls or statues. As long as it triggers an environmental effect, it should count towards the trophy. To make sure they count 100%, only the definitive confirmed ones with a sign will be listed here.
To make sure it counted, you must have seen the environmental effect. If in doubt, bow at the Altars a few times in a row until you’ve triggered the effect and check the PS5 trophy progress after each.

Yotei Grasslands
1 – Southern Coast
Found at the coastline near the sea.
2 – Sarubetsu River
Where the Altar of Reflection icon is on the map, at the rocks below the yellow tree. If you fast travel to the icon it will be in front of where you spawn.
3 – Lake Shikotsu
On the eastern shore of Lake Shikotsu, at the edge of the lake.
Ishikari Plain
4 – Hikari River
Inside Hikari River, where the river splits between Otaru Beach & Otaru Hills.
5 – Rumoi River
On the south side of Rumoi River, on the cliff overlooking the river, in a purple flower field.
Tokachi Range
6 – Amber Respite Shrine
At the entrance to Amber Respite Shrine, in the little pond below the waterfall.
7 – Huranui’s Rest Inn
At the shore north-east of Huranui’s Rest Inn, on the other side of the river that flows past the inn.
Nayoro Wilds
8 – Cukpet Hills
Follow the river south from Cukpet Hills, when you reach the southern end of the region you find this in a campsite to the right of the river.
Teshio Ridge
9 – Sakuru Woods
North-east of Sakuru Woods, in the middle of a lake on the rocks.
Oshima Coast
10 – Seianji Temple
Fast travel to Seianji Temple in the west of Oshima Coast. From where you spawn, turn left to find this below the waterfall.
Bonus – there is another one in Seianji Temple. Fast travel there, and from where you spawn go forward to the bridge and turn right to find it at the cliffside.
