Borderlands 4 has an open World Map that is divided into 4 regions: The Fadefields, Carcadia Burn, Terminus Range, Dominion City. This page reveals the full in-game map.

Some of the map sections can’t be fully unfogged because they are in impassable terrain such as mountains. The map is almost entirely landmass and is surrounded by an ocean. You can drive over water with your vehicle (unlocked in Main Mission 3: Down and Outbound). The map is relatively quick to explore while driving around, it takes around 30 minutes to unfog a region, or around 90-120 minutes to unfog the whole map.
Some areas are inaccessible until progressing the story. The city in the middle of the map (Dominion) becomes accessible during Main Mission 17: The Falling Wall. The southern section of Dominion becomes accessible during Main Mission 19: Plan Z, after this point you have access to the full map. A few areas are also gated behind Side Missions.
