Lightzen Temple is the 3rd shrine in Worship’s Rise region. This guide series covers all trophy/achievement relevant items, collectibles, NPC questlines, and bosses to get Platinum & 1000 Gamerscore in one playthrough. There are other non-unique items, all of which can be bought from merchants later in the game (consumables, feathers for weapon upgrades, armor dropped by enemies), and benedictions which aren’t relevant for trophies. Everything becomes missable as the story progresses, especially NPC interactions must be done at the earliest opportunity. This guide is intended for use during the story, if doing anything out of order it can fail questlines and their associated rewards.

Collectibles Overview:

  • Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Collectible Guide

How to reach Lightzen Temple: on story path, in a little village area after the Tang Palace Maid boss.

Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple

NPC: Wu Gang (Merchant for trophy Shop of Plenty)

To the left of the shrine you find a man on the ground. Interact and choose to “Help Him Up”, exhaust the dialogue. He is Wu Gang, you must fully unlock all of Wu Gang’s stock for the trophy Shop of Plenty, which is done over the rest of the game.

Dough Figurine of Mu Guiying (Quest Item & Consumable – Child in a Jar Questline)

From the shrine turn around 180°, then to your right you’ll see two enemies in a courtyard next to an enemy banging on a door. Defeat them to pick this up where they stand. DON’T consume this from your inventory! It can be given to the NPC “Child in the Jar” a little bit later, will be pointed out when we get there.

Lost Remains (Manna Vase Potency Upgrade)

Enter the area in front of the shrine to a courtyard where a monk feeds on a corpse. On the right side you’ll see a big golden chest, open it.

Golden Bowl (Wu Gang Shop Upgrade)

Go through the courtyard where the golden chest was until you reach a gate you must open. At the gate turn around to find this inside the building across from the gate (purple item). Golden Bowls are used to upgrade Wu Gang’s shop later, but at this point you can’t give it to him yet.

Boss: Master Raider – Man-eating Dhutanga (Boss Guide)

Automatic story main boss. After opening the next gate.

Reward: Copper Jug, Bone Needle – Flame, Temperance, Lightzen Key, Spell: Echo of Dhutanga, Tempering Menu unlocked,  Master Raider – Man-eating Dhutanga

Copper Jar (Tao Qing Shop Upgrade)

Dropped by the boss Master Raider, can be given to Tao Qing later at Shu Sanctum to upgrade his shop.

Lightzen Key (Story Item)

Dropped by the boss Master Raider, needed to open the gate across from the shrine.

Spell: Echo of Dhutanga

Dropped by the boss Master Raider.

Tempering Unlocked + Item: Temperance

After the boss you learn Tempering, which allows you to change the special effects of your weapons using Bone Needles and Stone Needles. Tempering can now be selected from Shrines. You unlock new Needles from the left skill tree, then use the “Temperance” item (put it in a quickslot) to apply the element to your weapon, e.g. fire, frostbite etc. Tip: The best Needle is “Leech”, from the left skill tree. It adds Lifeleech which refills your health while you attack. I used this for the rest of the game together with the Axe.

Bone Needle: Yangchi Acupoint

Dropped by the boss Master Raider.

Bamboozling #1

Use the Lightzen Key on the gate across from the shrine, follow the path and you’ll see a Bamboozling (little yellow minion) running away, quickly kill him to receive this item. If he disappears you can rest at the shrine to respawn him. Bamboo Shoots can be traded to the Panda in exchange for products.

NPC: Nian Suichang (Master Nian) + Gesture: Well Met + Bone Whistle

Follow the path and you’ll find him in plain sight, stands on the main path. Exhaust his dialogues, he wants you to go upstairs in the village and grab some elixirs for him. He gives you the gesture “Well Met” + Bone Whistle (allows you to call allies during certain battles).

NPC: Child in the Jar + Gesture: Draw Circle

From the previous NPC, enter the house on the right and talk to the little boy. Give him the “Dough Figurine of Mu Guiying” you picked up earlier, if you haven’t consumed it yourself (was found across from the shrine between 2 enemies). He gives Gesture: Draw Circle.

Bamboozling #2

To the right of Child in the Jar follow the path, go straight instead of taking the bridge, the Bamboozling will spawn in front of a cave entrance. Hit him before he disappears. If it runs away, drop yourself into the river to revive at the shrine and come back.

NPC: Storyteller + Bamboo Shoot

Keep following the path to enter a cave, talk to the man sitting inside. He gives a Bamboo Shoot.

NPC: Panda (Merchant)

In the same cave where the storyteller is, you find the Panda upstairs. He’s the one where you trade in Bamboo Shoots in exchange for items.

Initial inventory:

  • Weapon: Steampowered Spear (Spears) – 1 Bamboo Shoot
  • Spell: Divine Ward (reduces damage taken for a while) – 3 Bamboo Shoots

Armor Set: Ming Helmet + Ming Armor + Ming Armguards + Ming Greaves

Backtrack to where you talked to Child in the Jar and go up the stairs on the left, follow the left path forward to reach a red-eyed enemy. He drops the full Ming armor set (all 4 pieces).

At this point you can go in different directions. We will fully clean up the side area here before proceeding to Shu Sanctum. However, you can go the stairs to the big red temple to activate the shrine inside. In case you die, it’s faster to respawn from there. Don’t do anything at Shu Sanctum yet, we’ll go there later (you need to defeat a side boss first to get a quest item). After activating the shrine, backtrack to where you fought the red-eyed enemy.

Weapon: Un-Equilibrium Blades (Dual Blades)

To the left of where you fought the red-eyed enemy will be some ladders going up to the roofs and an invisible bridge over the river, indicated by a yellow/green orb. Go over the invisible bridge where the yellow/green orb floats in the air, then go left, down the path along the river. Where you see a wooden cart parked in front of a house, a big enemy will smash through the door. In front of the door is a yellow glowing item, that’s the weapon. Alternatively, you can also buy this weapon later after upgrading Wu Gang’s shop at Shu Sanctum shrine.

NPC: Bamboo Courtyard + Courtyard Key (Quest Item)

From the previous area, go along the side of the river to reach a bamboo forest. Take the first left to enter the Bamboo Courtyard. There are several enemies and 3 doors you can knock on, with NPCs behind them. Talk to all of them. The woman behind a door wants you to find her family and gives the Courtyard Key.

Armor Set (Militia): Militia Headscarf + Dirty Milita Clothes + Militia Vambraces + Militia Shin Wraps

Enter the Bamboo forest and go up the right path to a bigger village. Inside the courtyard of the first big house, use the Courtyard Key on the chained door to open it, go upstairs to find this yellow pickup. (key was given by NPC behind door in Bamboo Courtyard. Alternatively, can also enter by walking over the roof tiles until they break)

Damaged Letter (Quest Item)

In the same building, enter the bedroom and read the note.

Dough Figurine of Yang Zongbao (Quest Item)

Continue through this village area past where a big enemy rolls a rock at you. To the right of this enemy, go over the roof and up the ladder, which leads to a fire-bird enemy. Defeat him for this item.

Weapon: Empyrean Greataxe (Axes)

Directly above the fire bird enemy on the rooftop, pick up the yellow item. Go up the path to the right of the fire bird, enter the last house to go upstairs and climb the ladder to the roof.

Tip: This weapon is very powerful and what I used for the rest of the game in combination with Leech Needle from left skill tree. The L1/LB special ability lets you jump onto enemies, best used when you have 2 Skyborn Might. This is very powerful against bosses to get close to them when they dash away from you. The 2nd set of axe skills adds a Clash Effect to your quick attacks and heavy attacks which ignores most damage from enemies while you attack, in combination with Lifeleech needle you restore health faster than you take damage, while dashing out massive damage. Every final hit of the quick attack combo restores 3 Skyborn Might, which lets you use the special L1/LB jump ability to stay close to bosses and relentlessly attack non-stop to stagger them.

Bamboozling #3

Go back down the roofs. From where the fire bird enemy was, go up the left path and open the door into the second building. Down the path a Bamboozling will start running away from you. Watch for the other enemies that will appear.

Boss: Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu

Follow the path to the end of the village to reach a big wooden gate, it leads to the boss. (Can activate a shortcut to the right of the gate by kicking a tree which leads to next shrine “Shu Sanctum”).

Rewards: Trinity Bell (dispell madness – can be given to Huang Jan’e at Shu Sanctum), White Jade Dumpling (can be given to Qiao Ying in Shu Sanctum), Jade Cicada (Tao Qing Upgrade), Spell: Echo of Lu Hongliu,  Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu

Shrine: Shu Sanctum

Follow the path to the right before the boss arena, kick down the tree, go over it to reach a temple and go downstairs to find the shrine. Alternatively, you could also reach this by going up the stairs where you fought the enemy that dropped the Ming Armor Set.

NPC: Bamboo Courtyard – Step 2 + Burnt Meat (Quest Item)

Return to the woman behind the door in Bamboo Courtyard, the one who gave you the Courtyard Key. Give her the Damaged Letter. Afterward talk to her again immediately, she then says she will move to Reverent Temple (although never actually shows up there). Can also give her the Dough Figurine of Yang Zongbao (was dropped by the fire bird) and talk again to get Burnt Meat.

Shrine: Annalum

Backtrack to where the fire bird enemy was, just before where you fought Lu Hongliu boss. This time, go left of where the fire bird was, down the path. Follow this path to reach the hidden area Annalum. Shrine is along the path.
