Wuchang: Fallen Feathers contains 24 boss fights. This Wuchang Fallen Feathers Boss Guide will explain all boss locations and easy tactics to defeat them all. They are listed in the chronological order in which they can be reached, but since the areas let you take different paths they could be done in a different order.

Easy Character Build:

My favorite build is Axe with Lifeleech Needle. Lifeleech Needle is unlocked from the left skill tree. You quickslot the “Temperance” item (unlocked from 3rd boss) and buy needles from the left skill tree. The needles let you “temper” your weapons to add special effects for a time: fire, frostbite, poison etc. Lifeleech is particularly good because it restores your health while you attack. Combine this with the Axe Skills “Axe & Hook” and “Chop & Weave”. These add the Clash effect to your weapon which absorbs most of the incoming damage when your attacks clash with the enemy’s. The Axe skill “Tide Turner” refills your stamina on the final hit of each quick attack combo. What this means is that you can attack infinitely, absorb most incoming damage, and restore health at the same time! This lets you brute force almost any boss. You can always overlevel by farming enemies, put your points into Strength and Vitality. Empyrean Greataxe is the best weapon, it’s found in the early game, on a rooftop just before the 5th boss “Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu”. Its special L1/LB ability costs 2 Skyborn Might and lets you jump to enemies immediately. Not only will you jump over their attacks, you will also quickly get behind them and can follow up with quick attack combos infinitely. The final hit of the combo also gives you 3 Skyborn Might so you can immediately use the weapon skill again if a boss runs away from you. As long as the final hit lands, it restores your stamina and skyborn might so you can keep attacking. The damage output is very good and you don’t have to worry so much about dodging. Lifeleech works universally against every boss, too!

General Tips & Tricks:

  • Buff yourself before fights by using the Ancient Chisel from the inventory. It will respawn you at the nearest shrine and gives a random buff which lasts for a relatively long time.
  • Quickslotting Steamed Bunny Buns is also helpful, they heal you over time and are frequently found in the world.
  • Consume any Red Mercury items you found to get quick level-ups before bosses.
  • Interact with all NPCs at all opportunities (indicated by their icons in fast travel at shrines), some of them can then be summoned to boss fights by using the Bone Whistle. This makes fight considerably easier since the boss will focus on the NPC helper, while you can hang back and shoot magic or attack from behind.
  • Explore all areas thoroughly to find useful upgrade items that make the game considerably easier.

For a worry-free experience, follow our Wuchang: Fallen Feathers Collectible Guide, it includes all items, bosses, endings, trophies/achievements in one playthrough.

Bai Kru

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Reverent Temple: tutorial boss after talking to the Boatman NPC. NOTE: If you die here, the boss will go away and can’t be replayed. You only get 5x Red Mercury Essence from it, which gives 400 mercury (XP) each, so 2000 total. If you want to retry it, back up your save before talking to the Boatman NPC.

Difficulty: 6/10

Strategy: This is the first boss fight, triggered by talking to the Boatman NPC at Worship’s Rise. You will first need to defeat 2 small humans, then this boss spawns. It jumps around a lot, try to time your dodges and land 1-2 quick hits, rinse and repeat. Always get behind it or on its side before attacking, don’t stand in front of it or you’ll get hit. The boss is slow to turn while it attacks, as long as you stay behind it you’re safe. Take it slow and focus on dodging its attacks, as your health will be very low at this point in the game. You will die in about 4 hits. Heal with if you take damage. Leading up to the fight you can find Steamed Bunny Buns as blue items on the ground, which can be quickslotted to heal over time. This gives you an extra 5 heals. You won’t deal much damage, but don’t get greedy with your attacks, always 1-2 hits, dodge behind the boss, repeat. Sometimes he will shoot a water jet at you, dodge sideways through it and quickly get behind the boss to land a full combo. He is completely vulnerable and can’t move while he shoots the water jet. His moveset is very limited so as long as you recognize his attack pattern it will get easier to dodge.

Reward: 5x Red Mercury Essence (5 Skill Points)

Tang Palace Maid

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Buddha Cliffs: On the main story path, can’t miss it.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe (Halberd)

Difficulty: 2/10

Strategy: This boss has relatively little health and uses basic attacks that are easy to predict. Land 1-2 hits, then dodge back. Bait the boss into attacking you, then dodge away. After the boss misses a combo you can land 2-3 quick attacks of your own. Rinse and repeat. If you charge up a Skyborn Might (by dodging with perfect timing), you can use a spell with to attack from safe distance. This can stun the boss which gives you an opening for a full combo attack.

Reward: Benediction (Bu – Skyborn Ward)

Master Raider – Man-eating Dhutanga

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Lightzen Temple: Go through the courtyard to the right of the shrine and open the big wooden gate to find this boss.

Difficulty: 3/10

Recommended Weapon Type: Magic with One-Handed Sword

Strategy: First, spend some time farming the enemies around the shrine to level up. You can “Enter Dream” at the shrine to respawn enemies. Invest in the +5 base stats as they push your stats a lot. This boss is easy to kill by spamming magic. At the shrine, buy the one-handed sword’s second skill “Binding Time” (weapon is found in same courtyard where the shrine is). This skill automatically refills your Skyborn Might to cast magic. Landing a few light attacks speeds it up. Land light attacks on the enemies leading to the boss, them at the boss just spam your magic by pressing . Stay at a safe distance, dodge away, spam magic, wait for it to recharge, repeat.

Reward: Copper Jug, Bone Needle – Flame, Temperance, Lightzen Key, Spell: Echo of Dhutanga, Tempering Menu unlocked,  Master Raider – Man-eating Dhutanga

Feathered Priest – Lu Bingzhang

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum: On the top floor of Shu Sanctum, above the shrine.

Difficulty: 3/10 (if using Bone Whistle to call AI helper)

Recommended Weapon Type: Magic with One-Handed Sword

Strategy: If you talked to Nian Suichang (Master Nian) on the path from Lightzen Temple to Shu Sanctum, he will have given you the bone whistle. You can use it during the boss fight to spawn him as an ally, best done as soon as you enter the boss room. While he draws the aggro of the boss you can use the one-handed sword to spam magic spells. Buy the second skill in the one-handed skill tree to automatically recharge magic every few seconds. If the AI helper dies, focus on dodging and let your magic recharge. While magic doesn’t do very much damage to this boss, it is a safe and predictable way to play.

Reward: Benediction (Wei – Vitality Ferocity), Shu Sanctum Key, Mercurial Blood, Priest’s Broken Cane, Spell: Echo of Lu Bingzhang,  Feathered Priest – Lu Bingzhang

Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Shu Sanctum: from this shrine turn around 180° and leave the temple building. Go downstairs and on the right go over the invisible bridge (or over the roofs). Then take the path along the other side of the river, go through the bamboo forest and through the enemy camp where a big enemy rolls a rock at you. To his right you can go over the roof and climb up the ladder, drop down on the other end. Then follow the path past the fire bird enemy to reach a big wooden gate, behind it is this boss. You can make a shortcut: to the right of the boss gate you can knock down a tree to the Shu Sanctum temple’s roof. If you need to retry you can walk over this tree to reach the boss immediately.

Difficulty: 4.5/10

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Strategy: This boss uses basic melee attacks and sometimes shoots a stream of blood at you, which leaves it vulnerable. Unlike the previous boss, you can’t summon an AI helper. It’s recommended to use an Axe (Halberd) or Longsword, as these deal the most damage. Axes are generally best for any boss that isn’t weak to magic. Because the boss can rush towards you very fast, you’d get hit while casting magic. So it’s better to play melee and learn to dodge correctly. On the first attempt just focus on dodging all attacks to learn the moveset. When you’re close to the boss it usually does a series of short-range melee attacks. When you’re far away it will rush/jump to you or shoot blood. The best openings for long attacks are after it rushes at you in a straight line, then you can land hits from behind, after it finishes a short-range melee combo, and especially when it shoots blood. While it uses blood you can safely attack from the side or behind. When it walks on two legs and shoots blood, do quick attacks with the Axe/Halberd to deal lots of damage. As long as you wait for these openings and dodge all its other attacks, you can whittle down its health relatively safely. You can always spend some time leveling up to improve your damage output and resistances. Level 25 is good. Buy the early skills in each weapon tree that grant +5 to stats, especially the +5 strength on Longsword and +5 Vitality on Axe. Also buy the weapon upgrades in the skill tree for improved damage.

Reward: Trinity Bell (dispell madness – can be given to Huang Jan’e at Shu Sanctum), White Jade Dumpling (can be given to Qiao Ying in Shu Sanctum), Jade Cicada (Tao Qing Upgrade), Spell: Echo of Lu Hongliu,  Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu

Blightweaver – Great Centipede

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Bandit Cave: from this shrine walk down the path and in the next big room you’ll trigger a cutscene with this boss.

Difficulty: 5/10

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Strategy: This is a large centipede. Its claws use fire damage for melee attacks, and its tail sprays Corruption clouds. Optimizing resistance to these elements helps. It can also shoot magic projectiles when it casts a bright blue circle in the air. At half health it will dig into the ground and attack from below when the ground glows orange, but you can stand still and dodge when the ground starts glowing orange. You won’t be able to call an AI ally to this fight.

When the fight starts, stand behind the big rocks. When the boss hits them, he will be stunned for a few seconds. This lets you land a free combo. Each rock he hits will stun him. Other than that, dodge sideways when he uses melee combos, and after dodging his final hit (which has a long windup), you can land a combo. Level 25+ is recommended. If he casts purple clouds, get away as they cause the Corruption status effect that causes damage over time. At half health he digs into the ground. Stand still, don’t run. View the ground below you, when it turns orange dodge to the side to evade his attack from below. After he did this 3 times he fights you the same way as before. Relying on Magic doesn’t work too well for this boss as he is relatively immune to it and can jump at you from long distances while you’re casting spells. The Axe does the most damage here, but the Longsword also works well.

Reward: Astral Blade, Taoist Token, Believer’s Statue, Spell: Echo of the Great Centipede,  Blightweaver – Great Centipede

Reborn Treant – Soulwood

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Lu Mansion: Next to the shrine take the elevator, go forward through the pools of water until you have to kick down a glowing pillar to make a shortcut. Then go down straight down the path as far as you can and take the next right. You will hear a growl from the distance. Down that path is the boss. To make a shortcut, you can climb the ladder on the right of the path before the boss, and kick down another pillar that leads to an earlier shrine.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe for melee or One-Handed Sword for magic users

Difficulty: 2.5/10

Strategy: At the start of the fight the boss will pull you in. Don’t step into the deep blood pool or you will build up Despair ailment which instakills you when it’s maxed. Easiest approach is to use a One-Handed Sword and invest in its skill tree for higher magic stat. The magic will refill every few seconds and you can shoot spells from a safe distance. Using an Axe will deal damage faster, however. Either way, stick to the far left side of the arena, as most attacks can’t hit you there. The boss has only a few moves. When you see wind around its fist, it will strike the middle of the arena. His fist will get stuck on the ground, giving you time to attack. When he casts fire it will burn the center of the arena, but on the sides you are safe. When he pulls you in again, dodge backward. There will also be some crawlers and roots attacking you, which respawn infinitely. Just focus on the boss. If he shoots gore projectiles (usually 3 in a row), dodge those.

Reward: Alltree Jade Cylinder, Spell: Echo of Soulwood,  Reborn Treant – Soulwood

Tang Palace Maid (2nd Encounter)

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Palace Hill: From this shrine, turn around and go back a few meters on the story path where you came from, to the temple roof with the long ladder on the side. Climb down the ladder and enter that same temple through the front door. It will trigger a boss fight against Tang Palace Maid.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 1/10 (if keeping her staggered with Axe)

Strategy: You fought this boss once before at Buddha Cliffs but it reappears here. She is highly vulnerable to the Halberd, which can keep her staggered the entire fight. Start with a charge R2 attack to knock her down. Then spam R1 quick attacks to repeat the final 2 hits of the combo, which will keep her stunlocked. If you run out of stamina, again do a charged heavy attack and then spam more quick attacks. The fight will be done in under 30 seconds. If you do get hit, she does very little damage at this point in the game.

Reward: Hall of Music Key, Brilliant Red Feather, Palace Maid’s Hairpin, Palace Maid’s Satin Dress, Palace Maid’s Bracelet, Palace Maid’s Undergarments, Red Mercury Essence

Commander – Honglan

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise – Palace Hill: Take the path left of the shrine to pick up the purple item “Buddha Statue”, behind boxes where an enemy breaks through. Use the Buddha Statue next to the NPC to the right of the shrine. This drains the water in Tang Palace area. Climb back down the ladder and drop into the now drained area.

NOTE: Finish up all NPC interactions in the 1st main region “Worship’s Rise” before beating this boss. The NPCs disappear after the boss.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 6.5/10 (Level 35+ recommended)

Strategy: The difficulty spikes up significantly here, but with the right tactic it’s not too bad. She’s a human with a one-handed sword. She deals slash damage, so adjust your armor accordingly. She is weak to corruption damage, from the left skill tree buy the upgrade that unlocks “Bone Needle – Corruption”, and use the Temperance item to buff your weapon heading into the fight. If corruption builds up she takes continuous damage (like being poisoned). Have the axe skills “Axe & Hook” and “Chop & Weave” unlocked, these cause the Clash status on charged heavy attacks and on the third light attacks, deflecting most damage and allowing you to “brute force” this boss. Use the weapon Empyrean Greataxe if you have it. You should have axes upgraded to +4 by now. Character Level 35+ is recommended, if you’re underleveled farm the enemies around Lightzen Temple for fast level-ups, and consume the Red Mercury items from your inventory. Invest most of your skill points into Strength and Vitality. If you get stuck repeatedly it’s better to spend some time leveling up.

As soon as the fight starts, she will rush at you with a stabbing attack, dodge sideways. Always attack with a charged heavy attack (hold R2). Ideally, when she rushes towards you or does sword attacks. The above-mentioned axe skills will cause the “Clash” when you hit her sword with charged heavy attacks (while she attacks). This ignores most of her damage, which is an easy brute force method. I had 34 Strength and 31 Vitality. Even when you take damage don’t worry, keep hacking away at her until you are below 30% health, then retreat to heal. If you need to heal, get far away from her, her stab attack only reaches across half the area. Clash won’t trigger when she uses bare handed attacks, only while she uses her weapon. Once she’s staggered follow up with quick attack combos.

She will alternate between sword attacks and bare-handed attacks. Always do the charged heavy attack with axe when she uses the sword to clash her. When she uses bare-handed, get away. At half health she starts shooting wind attacks at you, which should be dodged sideways.

An alternative approach is to use a one-handed sword and focus on dodging attacks and casting magic spells. This does less damage than the axe but you can stay at a safe distance. The only thing that can hit you from anywhere are the wind attacks, everything else can be avoided by staying out of range.

Reward: Reverent Temple Key, Benedicton (Wei – Combo Force), 9000 red mercury,  Commander – Honglan

General of the North – Ai Nengqi

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Cloud Spire – Rebel Camp: In front of the shrine defeat the armored soldier to get the Rebel Camp Key. Then go down the ladder left of the shrine and down the left path. On the left you can use the key to open the gate.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 2/10 (Level 40+ recommended)

Strategy: Invest all skill points into the Axe skill tree to get as much Strength + Vitality as you can. In the left skill tree buy “Bone Needle – Leech”. Quickslot the “Temperance” item to buff your axe with the Lifeleech buff at the start of the fight. Then simply hack away at the boss with either charged heavy attacks or quick attack combos. Using charged heavy attacks, or the third quick attack, will trigger the Clash effect with ignores most incoming damage. The lifeleech will refill your health on each hit. This way, you are able to recharge health faster than the boss can damage you. Just when he jumps away to shoot arrows you should dodge. Otherwise stay close and hack away at him. It also helps to spend some time thoroughly exploring the side areas before the boss to level up. I got to level 46 by this point without farming anything, just exploring all corners thoroughly.

Reward: Weapon: Flamebringer (Longsword), 1x White Jade Dumpling, Seven Treasure Rosary (Tao Qing shop upgrade), Spell: Echo of Ai Nengqi,  General of the North – Ai Nengqi

Ming General – Liu Cheng’en

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Cloudspire – Cloudspire Outskirts: First, you must have defeated the previous boss “Ai Nengqi” at Rebel Camp to lower the drawbridge to the next boss (or light the 3 signal fires on the tower roofs to open the drawbridge). Fast travel back to Cloudspire Outskirts. If you opened the shortcut, you can go through the door to the right of the shrine. Then go up the path and turn right to go over the drawbridge, which leads to the boss. If you haven’t opened the shortcut yet, you can reach it from the other side where the Rebel Camp is.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 5/10 (Level 45+ recommended)

Strategy: This human boss uses frostbite damage and alternates between a spear and one-handed sword. Every two hits will inflict frostbite on you, which halves your stamina for a short time. You can use the same bruteforce method as the previous boss. Put all your skills into the Axe upgrades for Strength + Vitality, buy “Bone Needle – Leech” from the left skill tree. Buff your axe with it before the fight. Dodge the first 3 attacks, then do a charged heavy attack, then follow up with quick attacks until you run out of stamina. Rinse and repeat. If you drop below half-health, heal. As long as you attack the lifeleech will restore your health. When the boss drops below half-health he will do a special grab attack to slice your throat, which is indicated by a “chime” sound. Keep your distance when he’s at half health until he misses this attack. He will now switch from the spear to the sword. His attacks deal more damage now. When he attacks with the sword, do charge heavy attacks with the axe to trigger the “Clash” effect, and continue hacking away at him with light attacks. Because the final hit of the combo restores stamina you can cycle combos infinitely, so having half stamina from frostbite is of no consequence for axe users. In the 2nd phase just be careful of his stomp attack because it does heavy damage and you can’t trigger the clash effect on his bare-handed attacks. When he summons a storm around him, land one more combo and dodge away to not get trapped. If you’re level 45+ you can brute force him relatively easily, thanks to the lifeleech needle restoring your health while you deal damage.

Reward: Wooden Strip (Tao Qing shop upgrade), Spell: Echo of Liu Cheng’en,  Ming General – Liu Cheng’en

Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Cloudspire – Snowfall Palace: From the shrine take the path to the right before going up the staircase, through the door and down the elevator. Then open the big gate.

NOTE: If you obtained the Brital Attire from doing the children’s gang’s questline (finding Glut), you can give the wedding attire to Huang Yan before the fight. She is found on the rooftop of Snowfall Palace, up the stairs from the shrine, but she disappears as an NPC once you start the boss fight.

Recommended Weapon Type: Magic with One-Handed Sword (Astral Blade)

Difficulty: 3/10 using Magic

Strategy: Huang Yan uses spells that inflict Corruption and Frostbite. Equip whatever armor has the highest Corruption resistance. With melee weapons she can be annoying to hit because she constantly jumps away from you to cast magic. If you get hit by her purple orbs at close range they can instakill you. It’s easier to switch to Feathering Magic here and spam “Echo of Soulwood” spell, but to make it cost only 1 Skyborn Might make sure you have the skill “Fury of the Skyborn” from the left skilltree, and be above 50% Madness (reduces all spell cost by 1 skyborn might). So respec your skill tree and put everything into Feathering (since Echo of Soulwood scales to that) and One-Handed Weapon. From left skill tree also buy the needle “Bone Needle – Arcane” to buff your magic damage with the Temperance item. Thanks to the Biding Time skill your Skyborn Might will automatically recharge. If you keep your distance, she will just stand around and is of no threat. Her spells are easy to dodge from afar. When she goes below 50% health she will often transform into a fox and flies towards you. When you see the fox pull its head back that’s when it’s about to attack, so time your dodges to that. When she transforms back to human keep spamming her with Echo of Soulwood. Note that this spells also builds up corruption on yourself if used in quick succession, but it also causes corruption on the boss. The much faster damage output compared to Vorpal Blade makes up for that, and if you have high Corruption Resistance you won’t suffer much damage from it. The boss is surprisingly weak to Corruption despite using it herself, taking around 100 DPS from it. Let your skyborn might charge up fully to spam the spell in quick succession which builds up corruption faster. While you wait for Skyborn Might to recharge, she takes continuous corruption damage.

Reward: Research Journal – Scrap 1 (Quest Item), Shell Cup (Tao Qing Item), Spell: Echo of Huang Yan,  Mistress of the Night – Huang Yan

Perfect Bride – Fang Ling + Chimera – Fang Ling

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Cloudspire – Shaft Entrance: Follow the path after this shrine until you reach an elevator. It’s recommended to use the elevator first to make a shortcut to the earlier shrine Shaft Entrance. Then step onto the wooden bridge to fall into the boss arena. If you need to retry, respawn at Shaft Entrance and use the elevator to the left of the shrine for a shortcut.

NOTE: Finish up all NPC interactions in the 2nd main region “Cloudspire” before beating this boss.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 6.5/10 (Level 60+ recommended)

Strategy: This is a 2-phase boss (2 full health bars with a transformation), and it’s the final boss in the 2nd region. In the first phase she will mostly deal Slash and Stab damage, so use whatever armor is most resistant to it (Centipede Armor Set works well, bought from Tao Qing merchant in Shu Sanctum or Refugee Camp). Her spells use Feathering so having at least a few points in this stat to raise your defense is advisable (I had 13 Feathering on my Axe Melee Build). Put all your skills into the Axe upgrades for Strength + Vitality, buy “Bone Needle – Leech” from the left skill tree, and have the axe skills “Axe & Hook” and “Chop & Weave” to Clash her sword attacks. Buff your axe with it as soon as the fight. Just like with some previous boss builds it lets you regain health on every hit, allowing you to hack-and-slash the boss while she uses her melee attack. I had 49 Strength + 38 Vitality at level 60. If you struggle, spend some time farming level-ups.

The trick to beating the 1st phase fast is to learn when to attack. You always want to open with a charged heavy attack (spinning the axe) WHILE she attacks with any sort of sword attack. This will clash her attacks, ignoring most of the damage, while leech restores your health. Effectively, you deal her damage without taking damage. Dodge any of the spells she uses (some projectiles, a blastwave on floor, and a soundwave around herself). Other than the shockwave on the floor, her spells don’t deal much damage, so if you’re near full health you can simply tank through it and keep beating her up with light attack combos while she does this. Whenever you landed a charged heavy attack, keep following up with light attack combos until out of stamina, rinse and repeat. Learning her attack pattern is key. Her most dangerous attack is when she jump-spins her swords at you, the final hit of which does huge damage. If your heavy attack timing is off here, you might suffer the final hit of her combo. Her stab move which is followed by a grapple animation also does huge damage but she won’t grapple you if you Clash her with a charged heavy attack.

After her 1st health bar is gone, she transform into a huge monster. Her moveset changes completely, but she has less health here. At the start of 2nd phase she will run at you 3-4 times in a row. Dodge in the last moment. She then switches between melee attacks if you’re at close range. It’s best to stay away from her to bait her into using her magic attacks. Especially when she shoots a laser from her head, she will stand still and is completely vulnerable. This is your opening to land heavy damage. When she causes red rocks to fall from the ceiling you can also attack her freely. If she uses melee, dodge it, because Clash won’t trigger on these as she’s not using any weapon. You’ll always want to attack her from the side or behind, while she’s busy casting magic. Remember to reapply Leech to your weapon when it runs out! It makes the biggest difference in this fight to stay alive. Try to head into the 2nd phase with 4-5 heals remaining and learn to master her 1st phase.

Reward: Jade Ancient Chisel (Usable Item, access Benediction Menu anywhere without shrines) + Weapon: Bitter Severance (Dual Swords) + Shu Silk Fan (Tao Qing Item) + Spell: Echo of Fang Ling +  Perfect Bride – Fang Ling

Bo Sorcerer

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Mt. Zhenwu – Avian Dwelling: After going through the Avian Marsh, you can create shortcuts back to Avian Dwelling shrine by kicking down trees. Then you can walk over the tree shortcut behind the shrine to reach the boss immediately.

Recommended Weapon Type: If calling White-Robed Elder for help: Use Axe and hit her in the back with charged heavy attack to stun her, or use Spells from afar. If playing solo: Axe with Lifeleech Needle, or Longsword with Lifeleech Needle (faster than Axe)

Difficulty: 6/10 if you agreed to help White-Robed Elder in Refugee Camp, at the ladder leading down to the forest, then you can call him using the Bone Whistle to assist you in the fight.

7.5/10 if you refused to help White-Robed Elder and have to fight the boss solo by yourself (Level 75+ recommended).

Strategy: This is a one-phase boss (one health bar) and she uses a mix of magic spells and spear attacks. Pick armor with resistance to Magic, Stab, and Slash. This boss is a significant step up in difficulty. If it seems like you don’t stand a chance, go spend more time exploring other areas (i.e. Main Rebel Camp via the other exit at Refugee Camp) and try to hit Level 100+ to make it easier. What makes this fight easy or hard is whether you agreed to help White-Robed Elder in the Refugee Camp. If you agreed, put the Bone Whistle in your quick slots to call him as soon as the fight starts. He will draw all the attention. Then your best course of action is to hit her in the back to stun her (easiest while she casts water bubbles), or shoot her with spells (Echo of Soulwood). I found Axe with Lifeleech Needle the most efficient with all points put into Strength + Vitality, then doing heavy charged attacks on her back to instantly break her poise. She is very jumpy, so using the Empyrean Greataxe’s L1 special attack “Empyrean Crash” helps a lot to plunge onto her from long range. If this doesn’t work well enough for you, try respecing to one-handed swords and put all points into Feathering (since Echo of Soulwood scales to that). Then shoot her with Echo of Soulwood in quick succession when you have 5 Skyborn Might, to inflict Corruption which will damage her over time. Only issue is if White-Robed Elder dies because then you’re on your own, so try to deal damage quickly.

If you refused to the White-Robed Elder you have to fight her solo. That’s where things get really challenging. She is doing a constant flurry of attacks, not loving too much room for counterattacks. She hits very hard and moves around a lot. You will have to get good at timing your dodges. Then between attacks you can land 1-2 hits. The Axe is a bit slow here, and Clash isn’t too useful because she casts lots of magic and does jumping attacks which you can’t Clash. It’s worth experimenting with the Longsword to land 2 hits after she finishes a combo. When she flies in the air she will cast 4 yellow projectiles in a row. When she uses her spear, dodge until she’s done then land a few counter hits (she will either do a single long-range stab or multi-hit combo). If she stands around and casts water bubbles, she will shoot 2 bubbles in a row which cause splash damage, dodge them in the last moment (not too early or you take splash damage). When she goes below half health she will summon tornadoes but you can simply get away from her and the tornadoes won’t reach you. It’s a tough fight solo but it’s also a good chance to experiment with different builds, and you can always overlevel to make it easier.

Reward: Copper Drum (Tao Qing Item), Spell: Echo of the Bo Sorcerer, Bo Sorcerer

South General – Liu Wenxiu

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Mt. Zhenwu – Zhenwu Antechamber: Go through the area until you can open the shortcut to the door behind the shrine. Then from the shrine go through the shortcut and to the right, up the stairs to enter the boss arena.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 2.5/10 (Level 70+ recommended)

Strategy: This boss is weak to blunt damage, so the axe will make quick work of him. Put all your points into Strength. He doesn’t have much health and will go down in a few hits. When he shoots his gun, land a quick attack combo. After dodging any other combos, follow up with more quick attacks of your own. Use the Life Leech needle on your axe (from left skill tree) to restore health while attacking him.

Reward: Weapon: Thunder’s Call (Dual Blades), South General’s Armor Set (South General’s Helmet + South General’s Robes + South General’s Vambraces + South General’s Boots), Zhenwu Temple Key (Quest Item), Secret Missive (Quest Item),  South General – Liu Wenxiu

Fierce Tiger + Sovereign – Zhang Xianzhong

Location: Mt. Zhenwu – Altar Gate: Directly to the right of the shrine go through the big gate.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 6/10 (Level 70+ recommended)

Strategy: This is another 2-phase boss with 2 full health bars. After depleting the first healthbar he transforms and completely changes his moveset. He’s a big tiger, uses Lightning and Paralysis damage along with a variety of physical attacks. Equip the full South General’s Set (dropped by the previous boss) which gives the best resistances to this boss. Make sure you equip the Empyrean Greataxe weapon, its L1/LB special move “Empyrean Crash” lets you jump to the boss quickly from a long distance. This is perfect to get behind him while he casts magic, then string together quick attack combos. Put all points into Strength to deal lots of damage quickly (I had 59 Strength at Level 71), put the rest in Vitality, and buy the Leech Needle from the left skill tree. Buff your weapon with Leech to regain health while you attack.

If you did Huang Jian’e’s questline, you can use the Bone Whistle to call her as an AI helper to this fight, she will shoot magic and distract the boss. However, it’s better to keep the bone whistle for the 2nd phase, otherwise your helper will die too soon.

In the 1st phase his most dangerous attack is AOE lightning which can oneshot you. Get away when he does that. The best attack to exploit is when he casts a beam of lightning from his mouth. He will be stationary and defenseless while he does this. Keep 2 Skyborn Might for these occasions and then use the Empyrean Axe L1/LB skill “Empyrean Crash” to jump onto him. Then spam quick attack combos. With life leech needle active, you can tank through it when he starts attacking with his claws, just deal damage as fast as possible. He’s very jump and moves around a lot so use any chance you can get close to him to land combos. Always try to attack him from the side or from behind, he has trouble hitting you there with his melee. With the Axe-Strength-Lifeleech build you can take him out with a few combos.

In the 2nd phase there will be a guy with a spear riding on the tiger’s back. He will cast some new spells, but he still occasionally shoots the laser from his mouth which leaves him vulnerable, perfect for you to deal lots of damage. As soon as the 2nd phase starts, use the Bone Whistle to call Huang Jian’e, if she’s available (if you interacted with her at every opportunity). The same general strategy applies, use Empyrean Greataxe’s special attack to jump at him, then attack him from behind with quick attacks and tank through his attacks with Lifeleech (remember to reapply Lifeleech at start of 2nd phase).

Reward: Aurum Ancient Chisel (Manna Vase Upgrade Item), Tortoise Ingot (Tao Qing Item), Spell: Echo of Zhang Xianzhong,  Fierce Tiger – Zhang Xianzhong

Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Mt. Zhenwu – Bai Mansion: Follow the path left of the shrine to reach the boss at the end of the cave.

Recommended Weapon Type: One-Handed Sword “Boreal Abyss”, use its L1/LB ability with 2 Skyborn Might to inflict Frostbite for massive damage

Difficulty: 5/10 (Level 75+ recommended) using Boreal Abyss weapon ability to cause Frostbite on the boss

Strategy: Bai Kru is a big bird-like enemy, he only has 1 healthbar. He has a lot of health. He mostly uses melee attacks, especially jumps that cause a small radius of splash damage, and sometimes shoots water from his head. For this boss the Axe doesn’t do significant damage. Time to exploit Frostbite, he’s very weak to that!

Equip the One-Handed Sword Boreal Abyss (was found in Cloudspire – Snowfall Palace, in the hidden treasure room below the elevator inside the main palace building, make the elevator go up and then stand on the elevator to go down). Its L1/LB ability lets you throw 5 Ice daggers when you have 2 Skyborn Might charged up. Put all points into Magic + Agility + Vitality. Then simply dodge around to build up 5 Skyborn Might and spam the L1 weapon ability “Icebound Escape” at the boss. Once the Frostbite has built up he will take around 4000 damage in one go. Then simply keep dodging, rinse and repeat. Since you’re dodging the whole time you’re relatively safe. You can increase the Frostbite buildup by tempering your weapon with the Frostbite Needle. Since the one-handed sword skill “Biding Time” automatically recharges Skyborn Might you don’t even have to do perfect dodges. The L1 weapon ability also acts as a dodge and it’s very quick to perform. Note that Frostbite has a short cooldown after triggering it, use this time to build up another 5 Skyborn Might by dodging. So effectively, you’re just using the Boreal Abyss weapon’s special ability to attack, a safe and high damage build!

You can also use the bone whistle to call He Youzai to this fight if you did all of his prior interactions.

Reward: Research Journal – Scrap 2, Ivory Seal, Spell: Echo of Bai Kru,  Monstrous Toddler – Bai Kru

Nightmare Demon

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Annalum: after the next enemy that throws bombs at you, it will be up the stairs straight ahead, same place where the boss “Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu” was.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe

Difficulty: 3/10 (Level 75+ recommended) if using Axe with Life Leech to spam quick attack combos

Strategy: This boss uses the same moveset as the inner demons you will have fought anytime you died at max madness (and 6 of them were hidden around the game at fixed points). So you will already be familiar with this boss, this version just has more health. The boss only uses physical attacks, so equip a sturdy armor that has high physical resistances (Centipede Set or Ghost Warrior Set). Equip an Axe and Life Leech Needle, invest all skills into Axe and Strength+Vitality. Then open with a charged heavy attack, follow up by spamming light attacks. Since the final hit recharges stamina you can spam quick attacks infinitely as long as you always hit. When out of stamina, let it rechage then again spam light attacks. Always keep your weapon tempered with Lifeleech Needle, then you can easily tank through the damage you take.

Reward: Bo Blood, Everlight Stone Needle – Continuity (this boss doesn’t give a trophy)

Vermilion Feathers – Honglan

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Palace Pass: From the shrine drop down the left path.

Recommended Weapon Type: Axe with Lifeleech

Difficulty: 3/10 (Level 85+ recommended)

Strategy: Use the good old Axe + Bloodleech Needle combo, all points in Strength + Vitality. Just spam quick attacks infinitely in succession. At level 85+ you can bruteforce her easily with this setup. When she protects herself with her red-glowing wings, don’t attack as she will damage you.

Reward: Ice Crystal (Tao Qing item), Lovely Brocade Bag (Quest Item), Spell: Echo of Honglan,  Vermilion Feathers – Honglan

Bo Magus

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Palace Entrance: Take the path left of the shrine and go down the ladder, follow the path to reach the boss.

Recommended Weapon Type: Empyrean Greataxe with Lifeleech Needle

Difficulty: 7/10 (Level 85+ recommended)

Strategy: Bo Magus is a sorceress, she uses a mix of Feathering Magic (Red), Corruption (Purple), Fire (Orange), and Frostbite (Blue), and also magic-induced spear attacks. She is weak to blunt damage. Empyrean Greataxe with Lifeleech Needle is good here. As soon as the fight starts run behind her and do a heavy charged attack to instantly stun her, then spam quick attack combos. If she moves away from you, use Emyprean’s Greataxe special ability with L1/LB to jump onto her. Because she moves around a lot and tries to get away to cast magic, this is great to get within attack range instantly and then spam her with light attack combos (which thanks to the Axe skill recharge your stamina as well as your health from Lifeleech Needle). A good armor for this fight is the Ghost Warrior Set as it has good feathering + corruption + physical defense.

At the start focus on dealing damage fast. After dealing some damage she will fly high up in the sky and cast a yellow dagger. Get away to the far end of the arena where blue lanterns light up (the corner across from where you entered the boss arena). Here you can simply stand around and the AOE damage won’t hit you. After she does the yellow AOE attack, she will cast a red bubble around her. Attack the bubble to break it. You can shoot magic at it from safe distance, but physical attacks will break it too. While she’s in the bubble she will go on a rampage and use lots of spear slash attacks. Simply dodge backwards to get out of her attack radius and she stops spamming these combos. She typically does 4 strikes in a row and repeats this combo a few times in a row. When she stops you can use the Empyrean Greataxe L1/LB jump to drop onto her and spam quick attacks for fast damage. With Lifeleech you can tank through her other attacks if you put all skill points into Strength and Vitality.

Her dangerous attacks are these (focus on dodging when she does these, don’t attack):

  • Yellow dagger that drops from the sky = run to end of arena opposite the entrance to evade it (instakills you if hit).
  • Purple flames on ground = dodge to the side (can instakill if hit)
  • Red bubble shield around her = shoot with magic, or dodge her melee attacks and then attack with your weapon until the bubble breaks
  • Spear Slash Combo (especially while she’s in red bubble) = she will do 4 slashing attacks in a row and repeats this combo multiple times in a row. Dodge backward until she stops spamming the combo. If you take 3-4 hits of this it will kill you.
  • Frostbite shockwave = she will cause 3 blue shockwaves in a row, simply dodge back to get out of range
  • Yellow Giants = she will spawn 3 yellow giants who do swiping attacks, simply keep dodging until the third giant is gone. They will always spawn close to you, so don’t try to attack her as you’ll get hit by either the giant or her.

Less dangerous attacks that you can tank through with Axe + Lifeleech:

  • Shoots red feathering spear at you = does medium damage but can keep attacking with quick attacks, you’ll deal damage and gain back the lost health fast enough
  • Little Red or Orange flame orbs = keep attacking, they don’t deal much damage, your Lifeleech will restore health faster than the damage you take
  • Summons skeletons on floor = keep spamming quick attacks on her, the skeletons will get killed by your splash damage

She is an annoying boss to fight because she teleports and jumps around a lot while pretty constantly attacking. But with some practice most of her attacks become predictable and easy to dodge.

Reward: Magus’ Eyepiece (Tao Qing item), Spell: Echo of the Bo Magus, Bo Magus

The Reborn + Dragon Emperor – Zhu Youjian

VIDEO GUIDE

Location: Worship’s Rise in Ruins – Burning Cave

Recommended Weapon Type: Empyrean Greataxe with Lifeleech – or Boreal Abyss one-handed sword spamming its Icebound Escape special ability to exploit Freeze Damage

Difficulty: 4.5/10 (Level 90+ recommended)

Strategy: Make sure you equip Jade Pendant “Dracolich Pendant” for this fight, it makes it so you won’t flinch when the boss uses its roar attack (allows you to keep attacking while he roars). This is a 2-phase boss with 2 full healthbars. After his first healthbar he changes his moveset. If you gave the Jade Feather Chisel to Xuanyangzi at the Burning Cave shrine, he can be summoned with the Bone Whistle to help you. The boss is a large monster. For his size he doesn’t have very much health and doesn’t hit particularly hard.

Use Empyrean Greataxe + Lifeleech Needle, all skills in Axe + Strength + Vitality. Use the L1/LB special weapon ability when you have 2 Skyborn Might to get close to the boss, then spam R1/RB quick attack combos. Lifeleech will refill your health so you can simply tank through his damage without worrying about dodging. Only if your health gets critically low back away and heal. The enemies in this area give so much XP (15-20k from single enemies) that you can quickly level up to make it easier. Don’t use too many charged heavy attacks here, the boss can interrupt these, and they don’t deal as much damage per second as light attacks. So just L1/LB whenever you have 2 skyborn might, followed by spamming R1/RB.

An easy alternate method is to use the Boreal Abyss one-handed sword, put all points in One-Handed + Agility + Magic. Use Lifeleech Needle. Then simply let your Skyborn Might recharge and spam the L1/LB weapon ability which will throw ice daggers. Do this ~5 times in a row to cause Freeze buildup which deals a lot of damage in one go. Rinse and repeat. You can spend the whole time dodging and just spamming this one move, works well on large monster bosses like this.

In his 2nd phase he will always start by throwing a huge glowing orb at you. It will explode, but if you are constantly dodging you won’t take any damage. Simply run forward to the boss and dodge constantly when the orb is near the ground. Don’t shoot ranged magic at him here because he will suck it up into his orb. If he starts doing a health suck move you can attack him to knock him out of it.

Reward: Vermilion Ancient Chisel (required for +10 weapon upgrades), Jade Belt Hook (Tao Qing item),  Dragon Emperor – Zhu Youjian

5th region bosses will be revealed soon.
