Honedge and its evolutions, Doublade and Aegislash, have made their Pokémon Go debuts and the methods to get them are a little specific, as you won’t just find them floating around in the wild like you would with other Pokémon. Aegislash also has a pretty unique battle mechanic, making it an interesting pick for PvP.
Below, we explain how to get Honedge and its evolutions in Pokémon Go, as well as how Aegislash’s two forms work.

How to get Honedge in Pokémon Go
As of writing this, there are a few ways to get Honedge:
* Catch it in tier-one raids during the “Ultra Unlock: Steel and Scales” event from July 22-27.
* Nab it as the encounter reward (requiring three wins) in PvP from rank 6 and up (only from July 22-27).
* Get it as a reward as the encounter reward from PvP from rank 16 and up (after the above event ends).
Note that there is only a chance that Honedge will be the encounter reward in PvP, as there’s other Pokémon in that reward pool, depending on your rank. Niantic’s own blog post does note that Honedge has a higher chance to appear in the premium PvP track, in which you pay one Premium Battle Pass to enhance the rewards.
How do Aegislash’s forms work in Pokémon Go?
Aegislash can transform between its Blade Forme and Sword Forme, with its stats shifting around a bit between transformations. Blade Forme has higher attack and Sword Forme has higher defense.
In Pokémon Go, Aegislash changes form mid-battle, similarly to how Morpeko does. It will start the battle as Shield Forme and then change into its Blade Forme when it uses a charged attack. It will change back to its Blade Form if you use a protect shield or swap it out.
As of writing this, Shield Forme Aegislash takes extremely reduced damage — to a point where some players don’t know if its intentional or not. You’ll want to eat beefy enemy charged moves in its Shield Forme, and then swap to Sword Forme to dish damage back out.
Additionally, Aegislash cannot be used in raids at all. It’s unable to be added to parties making its only use a PvP Pokémon, but this may change in the future.
How to get evolution Doublade and Aegislash in Pokémon Go
Thankfully, Doublade has no unique evolution requirements (like setting it as your buddy and whatnot). You’ll just need Honedge Candy to evolve it fully. It takes 25 Honedge Candy to evolve it into Doublade, and another 100 Honedge Candy to evolve your Doublade into Aegislash.
So you’ll need at least 125 Honedge Candy to fully evolve it, and that doesn’t include any of the extra candy you’ll want to power it up. Better get using those Pinap Berries!
