“Memory fragment found” is a message you may see in Elden Ring Nightreign. It’s key to unlocking remembrances, some of Limveld’s biggest mysteries.
Memory fragments lead to adventures that fill out the backstory of Nightreign’s enigmatic Nightfarers (the eight characters who comprise the classes you play). Accessing these unique missions, however, is a secret unto itself.
In this Elden Ring Nightreign guide, we’ll explain what “memory fragment found” means, including what memory fragments are and how to use them to access remembrances.
What does ‘memory fragment found’ mean in Elden Ring Nightreign?
In Elden Ring Nightreign, the message “memory fragment found” means that you have acquired this unique item that gives you access to a remembrance and which gives you access to side missions. You can only obtain memory fragments by defeating a Nightlord and completing an expedition.
According to our testing, you can unlock more than one remembrance per memory fragment, though it’s unclear if remembrances of certain characters are tied to specific bosses. Additionally, the class you use to complete an expedition does not determine which remembrances you’ll unlock. For example, we’ve defeated the first Nightlord while playing as Ironeye but have received remembrances for Ironeye and Recluse so far.
The side missions you unlock with a memory fragment work like chapters, telling bits of narratives about the various Nightfarers you play as. They also involve completing certain goals during matches. After completing one chapter, you need to obtain more memory fragments to unlock the next segment of the remembrance.
Although part of the focus of remembrances is to tell the story around the mysterious characters you play as, you can also obtain strong relics for a specific Nightfarer by completing them.
How to complete remembrances in Elden Ring Nightreign
Remembrances are missions related to each of the Nightfarers. They tell the backstory of each Nightfarer in a surreal manner, like other FromSoftware games. In one way or another, all remembrances involve completing a “Personal Objective” (a side mission for that particular character) during an expedition.
Each of the Nightfarers has different remembrances and goals. To start a remembrance, you need to first visit the Journal on the west side in the Roundtable Hold. Interacting with it gives you access to chapters about the characters. If you have unlocked a character’s remembrance, you’ll see a chapter with the “Begin remembrance” prompt below its description.
When you start a remembrance, you’re teleported to the Realm of Remembrance —another version of the Roundtable Hold — an exclamation mark appears on your map. Go to the location indicated to talk to an NPC and learn about the mission.
To complete a remembrance, you need to start a match while in the Realm of Remembrance. Keep in mind that only one personal objective is active per party, so it doesn’t mean that you will be able to do yours in the first match you enter after starting the remembrance.
You can always stop tracking one remembrance to start another or just play a regular match. In this case, you need to go back to the Journal and select “Postpone remembrance.”
