Journals can be picked up at any time as long as you have advanced the story to the area where they are located.

MISSABLE WARNING: Journal #7 is missable because it requires a missable key item that is obtained in the second section of the Prologue.

MISSABLE KEY ITEM: Old Key & MISSABLE JOURNAL #7 – Once you reach the festival area in the second section of the Prologue you automatically receive a Festival Token. These are used to trade for three items in this area. Immediately walk to the woman at the back left in the third stall. Agree to trade her the token to receive the item Old Key. This key is required to open a door and receive Journal #7 later in the game. If you don’t obtain this key before exiting the Prologue you cannot obtain that journal, and thus cannot earn the trophy/achievement for obtaining all Journals in this playthrough, and would need to collect them all again in a second playthrough. If you trade this token for something else first you can obtain two other tokens by interacting with the man in white or beating Maelle in a fight before leaving the area.

Journals

Journals are listed in the order that they appear in the Journal section of the menu. Note that the Journals at the start of the list before Expedition 34 won’t appear in the menu before being obtained, so when checking for what you are missing make sure the names are in the same order, and if you are missing Journals titled “Unknown” check what the start of the text is against the text in the list.

#1 – Verso

The Continent

On a raised area you need to fly to west of Forgotten Battlefield, at the back behind the group of enemies (same platform Journal: Julie is located).

#2 – Aline

Main Area: Inside The Monolith > Tainted Battlefield

After progressing through the enemies in the battlefield area you will encounter a split in the path with a tombstone in the middle. Take the left path to find a door to The Manor. On the right side of the room (blue circle) is the journal.

#3 – Renoir

Main Area: Old Lumiere > Manor Gardens

From the flag go to the left through the broken wall to find a door to The Manor to enter a bathroom where a journal is located. Go through the door in the bathroom to reach a bedroom. The journal is on the table beside the bed.

#4 – Unknown “…people come and people go,”

Side Area: The Canvas

Enter the area and walk forward to the large painting, interact with it to receive the Manor Family Canvas. You need this to obtain the journal.

Now enter the Manor from any entrance (there is one located on the island directly south of (Blades’ Graveyard in the middle of The Continent) and go to the entrance where the flag is located. You can interact with the empty frame on the right stairwell in the entrance to place the Manor Family Canvas. This opens the door at the far end of the hall, allowing you to enter and pick up the journal.

#5 – Unknown “…art can be a Window”

Main Area: Visages > Anger Vale

From the flag take the first path on the right into the cave, then right at the split to reach a door to The Manor. In the room you appear in is a record pickup. In the next room, the journal is at the base of the bed on a box.

#6 – Unknown “You speak to me of perfection”

Side Area: The Reacher > Ladder Area

From the flag follow the path down to the right where there is a door to The Manor in an area with a bunch of burnt-looking Orphelins. Inside the room you end up in is the journal.

#7 – Survivor MISSABLE

Main Area: Old Lumiere > Left Street

After the first enemy, go to the right where there is a pipe with a Colour of Lumina sitting on top. Drop into the hole and turn around where there is a gate that is unlocked with the Old Key obtained during the Prologue. Behind the door is this journal. If you did not pick up the Old Key then you cannot get this Journal during your current playthrough.

#8 – Expedition 34

Side Area: The Crows

In the entrance to the area beside the flag. If you want to fight the Chromatic miniboss in this area, shoot all of the crows to make it appear.

#9 – Expedition 35

Side Area: Falling Leaves > Resinveil Grove

Follow the path through the middle of the area to where you can see the floating enemies, the journal is on the left by the ramp.

#10 – Expedition 36

Side Area: White Tree

In the middle of this side area along with a Record pickup.

#11 – Expedition 37

Side Area: Gestral Beach

Beside the exit of the area.

#12 – Expedition 38

Side Area: Yellow Harvest > Harvester’s Hollow

From the flag drop into the lower area and then go up the ramp on the right. In the area at the top of the ramp the journal is on the ground in the middle.

#13 – Expedition 39

Main Area: Visages > Sadness Vale

From the flag take the path on the right closest to the floating mask up to a ruined camp where the journal is located.

#14 – Expedition 40

The Continent

On the small island in the northwest corner of the map beside a shop Gestral.

#15 – Expedition 41

Main Area: Forgotten Battlefield > Vanguard Point

When you encounter the Fading Woman in the middle of a split path, take the path to the right, then the first left to find the journal near a burning Nevron body.

#16 – Expedition 42

Main Area: Old Lumiere > Manor Gardens

After you have completed Old Lumiere during the story, return to the last flag. Facing the exit to the area, go to the right where there are two paths that weren’t previously open. Facing both take the one on the left and go down the rope. The journal is sitting beside the large sword in the ground past the enemy.

#17 – Expedition 43

The Continent

On island on the east side of the map, near a wandering Chromatic Reaper Cultist.

#18 – Expedition 44

Side Area: Yellow Harvest > Harvester’s Hollow

From the flag drop into the lower area and then go to the left of the ramp that leads up to the right., near a bunch of bodies.

#19 – Expedition 45

Side Area: Crushing Cavern

Defeat the boss blocking the path, then the journal is on the upper floor past the pickup that you could see when you were entering the area before dropping through the floor.

#20 – Expedition 46

Side Area: Sirene’s Dress

At the back of the area, required to be picked up to complete Lune Relationship level 6.

#21 – Expedition 47

The Continent

Northeast of the Gestral Beach near Monoco’s Station is a shop and a path leading to some enemies. This is on the right before the group of enemies.

Side Area: Stone Quarry

In this area to the right of the Nevron.

#23 – Expedition 49

Side Area: Falling Leaves > Resinveil Grove

Speak with the boy on the right side of the center area, then speak with the Lady of Sap in the area below (rope on path immediately to the right of the flag). Return to the boy and speak with him again to open the gate behind him. Take the rope up to the high platform and the journal is on the left.

#24 – Expedition 50

Main Area: Stone Wave Cliffs > Paintress Shrine

Follow the path into the next area where it splits, and go down the left path. The journal is on the left beside some bodies.

#25 – Expedition 51

Side Area: Frozen Hearts > Icebound Train Station

From the flag follow the path forward to the left going past the caves. You will spot a train car on the left with an item you can’t reach, then just past is a large door with this journal in front.

#26 – Expedition 52

Main Area: Gestral Village > Entrance

Go down the left side of the village following the signs pointing to the arena. At the final sign there is a small path to its left leading to this journal.

#27 – Expedition 53

Side Area: The Small Bourgeon

Go down the path left of where the white Bourgeon was located to find this journal in the corner.

#28 – Expedition 54

Side Area: Stone Wave Cliffs Cave

At the back of the area is a Chromatic Hexga boss, with the journal on the ground to its right.

#29 – Expedition 55

Main Area: Sirene > Dancing Classes

After defeating the first two groups of two enemies, the journal is on the right by a group of three enemies with two large dancers outside the platform.

#30 – Expedition 56

Main Area: Stone Wave Cliffs > Entrance

In the next open area after the crystal enemy, the journal is on the left path in front of a statue.

#31 – Expedition 57

Main Area: Forgotten Battlefield > Vanguard Point

After going through the passage behind the Fading Woman, this is immediately in front of you in the open area before going to the left to continue to the next flag “Ancient Bridge”.

#32 – Expedition 58

Story related, you obtain this Journal automatically when returning to camp after completing Old Lumiere main area.

#33 – Expedition 59

Side Area: Yellow Harvest > Yellow Spire Wrecks

Take the left path from the flag, the journal is on the ground in front of the pillar.

#34 – Expedition 60

Main Area: Lumiere > Shattered Alley

When you reach the Opera House, instead of going inside go to the right where there is a path with an interact prompt at the end. Use it and have Esquie bring you the item to receive the journal.

#35 – Expedition 61

Side Area: The Reacher > Foggy Area

Along the main path on the platform immediately before the balloon that takes you to the next flag “Peak”.

#36 – Expedition 62

The Continent

At the end of the area north of Gestral Village, behind a breakable area you can pass with Esquie.

#37 – Expedition 63

Main Area: Ancient Sanctuary > Sanctuary Maze

Follow the maze until you progress through the required area where you pass a building on the right with blue lights and a group of statues with brush heads on the left (immediately before the next Expedition Flag “Giant Bell Alley”). Go through the middle path to the left between the two farthest statues to a lower area where the journal is in the middle. There is also a group of Paint Cage points, and the cage itself is reached by taking the path to the immediate right of this one.

#38 – Expedition 64

The Continent

On the shore south of The Meadows, in the middle of an abandoned camp.

#39 – Expedition 65

Main Area: Monoco’s Station > Monoco’s Station

Go out the back of the area (past where you fought Monoco) and there is a journal on the left before the exit.

#40 – Expedition 66

Main Area: Esquie’s Nest > Francois’ Cave

After defeating Francois and returning to Esquie, follow the new path that was opened up on the left to a path back to the entrance. On the right of the path leading to the exit is a group of tents with the journal in the middle.

#41 – Expedition 67

Main Area: Sirene > Crumbling Path

After taking the elevator behind where the snake miniboss was located, this journal is in the room immediately before the next flag “Dancing Arena”.

#42 – Expedition 68

Main Area: Flying Waters > Coral Cave

This journal is along the main path on the right immediately before you reach the open area with the huge Nevron in the distance. The music changes as you are walking through the corridor where this is picked up.

#43 – Expedition 69

Main Area: Visages > Joy Vale

From the flag follow the left path and on the left on a ledge with two enemies is the journal.

#44 – Expedition 70

Main Area: Inside The Monolith > Tainted Lumiere

When you reach the area with all the flower stalls (the same location you come to off the rooftops at the very start of the game), go around the stalls to the right to find some grapples across broken sections of ground. Follow the path to the end to find this journal.

#45 – Expedition 78

Main Area: Stone Wave Cliffs > Entrance

In the large area with the crystal enemy go to the right (when entering from the flag, left in below image) and there is a rope that leads to an upper level. On the ledge immediately in front after going up the rope.
