Brushes With Death DLC Starting Location
To start the Brushes with Death DLC you must have finished Main Quest 6: For Whom the Bells Tolls, which opens up Trosky Castle. After this, the DLC will be marked by a purple icon in Trosky region, slightly southeast of Trosky Castle:
There you will find a man tied to a tree at the edge of the forest. Approach him for a cutscene, he wants you to cut him loose, but you attract the attention of two hungry wolves.
Help the Stranger in Distress
Defeat the two wolves. If you’re doing this on your playthrough for Lent to not kill animals, you can simply kick them with no weapons equipped so they fall unconscious.
Afterward, untie the man from the tree. This will start a long conversation with him.
To gain reputation the best options are: “A pleasure to meet you” > “How did you end up tied to a tree?” > “What exactly happened here?” > “Tell me everything from the beginning” > (Say Nothing) > “You’re lucky to have survived” > “I was happy to help” > “What do you need help with?” > “I’ll bring you your things” > “Of course, I’m not a murderer” > “I’ll go and look for your thieves (leave)”.
Afterward, the next two objectives will be marked south of the quest start.
Reminder: you can only track 3 side quests at a time. If you are already tracking 3 other quests, you must untrack them to see the waypoint markers on the map!
Obtain the painter’s dice (Optional) / Get the painter’s set of brushes
Head south to the area where the quest marker is. There will be a yellow search area. You must go to the very middle of the yellow area, there you find two bandits who made camp between the trees.
The guy called “Four-Leaf Clovis” has the 3 painter’s dice for the optional objective. The guy called “Yura” has the paint brushes.
There are multiple ways to get the items back:
- The easiest approach is to beat them up and loot the items from their bodies. If taking this approach it’s best to use unarmed combat to only knock them unconscious instead of killing them. They might try to run away, in which case run after them and beat them up from behind (they will stay marked as objectives).
- Talk to Yura, say “The Painter Sent Me” > if you win the skill check you can ask him more questions > when you get another skill check you can try to challenge him to a shooting contest for the brushes, but he only accepts if you have a very high archery skill level. If the skill checks fail you will need to beat him up and loot the brushes off his body.
- Talk to Four-Leaf Clovis, say “I’ve come for the painter’s stuff” > if you win the skill check he offers to wager the items in a game of dice. If the skill check fails or you don’t want to play dice, then just beat him up.
Return the painter’s belongings
Fast travel back to Trosky Castle and return to the painter, he will be marked. He’s typically in the west-wing of Trosky Castle, upstairs, in the room connected to the scribe’s office.
Tell him “You have a lovely workshop” > “I’d love to take a look” (Reputation+) > “I brought your things” > “Thank You” (Reputation+).
This finishes A Sketchy Situation quest in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: Brushes with Death DLC.
