Although your little tiger companion Goro will bring you all kinds of items, you may have been confused about why you can see bugs and fish in your environment but cannot interact with them. The answer is hook!
Hold down LT (R key on PC) to enter "Search Mode", when you can aim with a hook rope, and any interactive object will emit a blue light. Once the target is found, press RT (forward arrow on PC) to fire the hook rope to grab the item.
You can also catch the fish by swimming and pressing the X(Xbox)/PlayStation/Spacebar (PC).
