If you own the Time Crack expansion pack, you need to upgrade your Royal Pickaxe to break the copper stone. To upgrade, you first need to complete the task "The Secret of Eternal Island" given by Jafar, and then unlock the first upgrade of the Royal Hourglass (see below for details), if you still want to break the Great Copper Stone.
Although only the first upgrade of the Royal Hourglass (cost 5000 mist) is required, it takes an additional 3000 mist to create potions that can permanently unlock the big copper stone.
