You can tackle several quests in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. One of them involves a mother-and-daughter duo that you meet fairly early in the campaign, though they seem to have encountered their fair share of troubles in their lives. Here's our guide on how to save Pavlena in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.
How to save Pavlena in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 - Bad Blood quest guide
You can start the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Bad Blood quest shortly after completing a few tasks in the village of Troskowitz. When you feel like it, you could return to the hut of Bozhena, the herbalist who saved you and Hans Capon earlier in the campaign. Upon arriving at her hut, Bozhena tells you that her daughter, Pavlena, is missing, and it's up to you to find her.
The search for Pavlena in Troskowitz
Go back to Troskowitz and chat with the townsfolk that are marked on your map. Eventually, you'll learn that Pavlena is seeing a fellah named Roman. If you go to the abandoned home right next to the tailor's shop, you'll hear someone named Dushko calling out for Roman.
Dushko doesn't know where Roman is, but you might find some clues inside his home. Climb the ladder at the side of the house and enter the opening on the second floor. Then, check the dining table for some clues.
Note: Since Roman's home is abandoned, you can sleep in the bed without being caught trespassing. This is useful in case you need to heal your character, since the tavern keeper might still be ticked off due to your earlier antics and she refuses to have you rest in her establishment. However, because this isn't a bed that you own, you won't be able to save your game.
Roman and Pavlena's whereabouts
In any case, the next step if you want to save Pavlena in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 involves finding where she and Roman ran off to. Go to the marked location until you see a picnic site that's been recently set up. Examine the clues, as well as the blood spatters, to realize that something has gone awfully wrong.
If you've already reunited with your dog companion Mutt, he can sniff around for clues. Otherwise, you have to look for the blood spatters and tracks on your own. Soon, you should see Roman's corpse in a hastily dug grave, but Pavlena is nowhere to be found.
Just a short distance away, you should spot a pig herder. Talk to him to learn that a farmhand named Straw was in the area just recently.
Straw the farmhand
Make your way to Straw's location in Troskowitz and confront him:
Persuasion: "Confess and nothing will happen to you."
Impression: "Calm down. I don't want to hurt you."
Intimidation: "It's a bit late for regrets."
If you fail any of the above dialogue skill checks, Straw will turn hostile and attack you. Wound him a few times until he gives up, but don't kill him. He'll then admit that what happened to Roman was an accident and that his brother, Ota, took Pavlena hostage.
At this point, you can bring Straw to the bailiff and suggest what should be done with him:
"Send him to the gallows!"
"He's making light of his crimes. He deserves punishment."
"He didn't have evil intentions. Take that into account."
Ota and Pavlena
Now, this is the part where you really need to save Pavlena in Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2. Make your way to the marked location, a rocky hill just south of Troskowitz.
As you continue along the path, a dog will bark and pounce at you. Do not kill the doggo! Instead, avoid its attack, disengage, and climb up the ladder.
An autosave will trigger at this point, and you'll see that Ota has a knife to Pavlena's throat. Dialogue skill checks will appear in succession here:
You can tell Ota who really sent you.
You can either tell the truth or lie about what happened to his brother Straw.
Of course, if you didn't kill his dog, you'd want to mention that, too.
In the end, we chose the following replies:
"God will forgive you if you let her go."
Persuasion: "I'll convince Pavlena to keep quiet."
Bozhena and Jakesh's reconciliation
After a rather surprising turn of events, you return to Bozhena's hut with Pavlena alongside you. The thing is, you're not done yet with the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Bad Blood quest. As the quest name implies, there's a deep hatred between Bozhena and Jakesh, a villager who lost his son at birth, a baby who Bozhena wasn't able to baptize. Given the beliefs at the time, Jakesh is unable to forgive Bozhena for damning his stillborn child.
Still, you have the chance to get the two to reconcile. In Bozhena's case, we saw an option to suggest such a thing, though we failed this dialogue check.
Soon thereafter, we visited Jakesh and we got the following options:
Persuasion: "Indirect guilt is still guilt."
Impression: "Revenge never ends well."
Intimidation: "If you don't make amends, I'll kill you."
"I won't try to convince you."
Neither the Persuasion nor Impression responses worked in our playthrough, so we had to rely on Intimidation. Henry's remarks scared Jakesh out of his wits, causing him to agree to a reconciliation. When you're done, return to Bozhena to tell her of the news. You could also hand over 150x Groschen as Jakesh's payment for the trouble that his hired hands caused.
Bad Blood rewards
When you're done with the Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 Bad Blood quest, you'll receive a boost to your reputation. Perhaps the most important reward here comes from the potential training opportunities:
Pavlena, by default, only sells a handful of alchemical wares. However, if you repay Bozhena for her kindness, this unlocks more training options from Pavlena.
Pavlena will be able to teach you the basics of Marksmanship, Thievery, Survival, Stealth, and Alchemy, netting you additional XP for these skills.
