The spear is the longer weapon in the game. As such, it benefits most from Vacuum Jade, which provides a percentage-based buff to the weapon's attack range. The Water Jade needs to be at a very high level to be effective before you get any spears, but it can help mitigate some of the damage you take, especially if you're charging into a horde with a spear.
The spear is probably the only weapon I don't recommend considering Flash Fire Jade, as you're more likely to take the hit than block it.
