In Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, you need to thoroughly explore the Seat of Christendom if you wish to discover all of its secrets. These include curious-looking objects scattered all over crypts and lost shrines. Here's our guide on where to find all Vatican Relics in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
All Vatican Relics in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle - Riddles of the Ancients guide
The Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Riddles of the Ancients activity is a collectible-type side quest. The goal is to acquire all 10 Vatican Relics in the Holy City.
This is likely to take you many hours, so we've got a fairly detailed guide to help you every step of the way. Before we discuss the locations of these objects, though, we should first talk about a means of making their icons appear on your map.
Vatican Relics: Guidebook location
Above, you can see a map that shows the location of the Vatican Relics guidebook. From the Apostolic Library, head south across Belevedere Courtyard and climb up the scaffolding and ledges in the construction site. You should then be able to enter a section that divides the Apostolic Palace and the Borgia Tower.
Vatican Relics: House of God puzzle
In this chamber, you'll spot an odd-looking contraption: a puzzle box. Open the compartment and read the note to start the House of God mystery quest. Here's what you need to do:
Move the lever all the way to the right to open a panel at the left-hand side.
Pick up the disc.
Move the lever all the way to the left this time to open a panel at the right-hand side.
Place the disc inside the indentation.
Get the chalice from the compartment and place it on the central base.
The puzzle box will open, and you'll be able to grab the Vatican Relics guidebook. With it, you'll see the icons of Vatican Relics on your map. This should really help you complete the Riddles of the Ancients in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
Vatican City map
The map above shows where you can find two Vatican Relics in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Both of them are actually in the Apostolic Library.
Vatican Relic #1
This is basically the first Vatican Relic that you obtain in the campaign. It's found in the crypt beneath the library, which you visit along with Father Antonio as part of the main quest. It's also what kickstarts the Riddle of the Ancients objective.
Vatican Relic #2
As you can see, we've numbered this particular Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Vatican Relic as #2 for the purpose of this guide. This is mostly because of its location, which is in Father Antonio's office.
To be clear, though, this might be one of the last that you obtain at this part of the game. That's because it requires you to take pictures of all 10 Strange Inscriptions as part of the Secret of Giants quest. Just make a mental note of this tidbit and try to track the mission from time to time. Once you've found all 10 Strange Inscriptions, place them on the board and Father Antonio will give you the artifact.
Underground Excavation Site map
Five more Vatican Relics can be acquired in the Excavation Site, which you gain access to as part of the Stolen Cat Mummy main quest. Once you've completed the Sacred Wounds puzzle, Indy will find himself in a long-forgotten catacombs. However, an accident occurs and he has to find another way out.
Vatican Relic #3
After the cutscene involving the bulldozer, you're tasked with finding another way out of the catacombs. Once you regain control of Indy, you'll eventually find yourself staring at a gaping pit. There's a wooden beam above you and water down below.
Now, getting this Vatican Relic in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is actually a bit tricky. That's because it's on a ledge halfway down the pit. If you fall down the water, then you'll have no choice but to follow the long loop around the dungeon until you're back at this exact spot so you can try again.
Here's an important tip: Make sure you see that an autosave has triggered as you approach this pit. Then, do a running jump to, hopefully, land on the ledge that's jutting out. You can also rappel downward and swing using your bullwhip.
If things work out well enough, you should be able to grab this relic. If not and you fall down the water, reload the most recent autosave and try again.
Vatican Relic #4
This Vatican Relic in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle also requires a bit of effort. After you get past the section where you need to swim (i.e. past the chamber with the Oceanus bust), you should see a narrow opening that you can pass through. The room behind that has wooden boards that you can burn, but water is also seeping down from above. Here's what you need to do:
Look for a torch and light it aflame, but don't pass through the opening while you have one equipped.
Instead, continue through the passageway that leads to the next area.
You'll then see a small window-like opening with bluish light shining through. It's actually light emanating from the hidden room.
Throw your torch through this hole, then return to the watery opening. You can now pick up your torch and burn down the obstacle.
Vatican Relic #5
Just past Vatican Relic #4 is a large chamber with a murky pool in the center. The goal is to climb to the top, whereupon you'll find a marble bust and a pedestal that opens a gate. Instead of placing the bust on the central pedestal, look for another one along the right-hand side. This will lift the metal gate at that section, allowing you to obtain this valuable.
Vatican Relic #6
For this collectible, continue past Vatican Relic #5 until you arrive at the next section, which has a beam above you. If you look closer, you'll notice that there's actually a second beam that's higher up. You can climb using your bullwhip to reach a hidden ledge with a Nike Statue. Past that is a small room that has this item.
Vatican Relic #7
You're one step closer to completing Riddles of the Ancients in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Just after picking up Vatican Relic #7, you'll find yourself in a corridor with metal gates and marble busts. The goal is to have one marble statue on the pedestal in the small room, and another on the pedestal in the corridor. This lets you crack open the weakened wall using a two-handed melee weapon.
Fountain of Confession map
The map above has the locations of three more Vatican Relics. These are all in the Fountain of Confession underground temple, which has several chambers with trials and traps.
Vatican Relic #8
This Vatican Relic can be found in the chamber with the pendulum traps. When you're at the part with two pendulums that are close to each other, look to your left at the murky water below you.
Vatican Relic #9
This Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Vatican Relic is in the gold trial chamber. There's a crawlspace that you can enter so you can place a bust on a pedestal. Doing so unlocks the nearby metal gate.
Vatican Relic #10
Last but not least, there's a Vatican Relic that can only be acquired once you're about to complete the main story arc in Vatican City. After surviving all the traps in the Fountain of Confession, you'll arrive at the treasure room. There's a battle against a formidable foe here, as well as a very long cutscene.
After the cutscene, Gina will ask you to use your pendant to unlock the doorway. Don't do that yet. Instead, check the right-hand side to pick up this valuable.
That does it for our guide on where to find all Vatican Relics in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Obtaining all of these completes the Riddle of the Ancients arc in this zone. In any case, don't forget to look for the other collectibles, including Lost Artifacts of Europe, Medicine Bottles, and Adventure Books.
