You can complete several quests in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Some of these provide you with key decisions that you need to make, while others can lead to dire consequences. One, in particular, involves the village of Zalissya, where you started your campaign journey many hours prior. Here's our guide on how to complete On the Edge in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. Please note that this article will contain some spoilers.

How to save Zalissya in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl - On the Edge quest guide

The Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl On the Edge side quest occurs midway through the campaign. Specifically, this is after your foray into the SIRCAA facility and a main quest called Just Like the Good Old Days.

You're notified of this side quest as you're heading back to Zalissya. Once you're close enough to the village, Gaffer will contact you via radio saying that Monolith forces are attacking the settlement.

Note: Our Stalker 2 On the Edge guide is based on our playthrough, since we encountered several issues. Your experiences might be different in case you don't have these problems at all. However, we do discuss how we managed to complete this part and we suggest making several backup manual saves in case of bugs, too. Fair warning: We did lose the guide NPC here, which meant that we could fast travel to Zalissya, but not from the location.

The first Monolith attack on Zalissya

Note that once we heard the radio call from Gaffer, we ignored all other quests and headed straight to Zalissya. That's when we came across several Monolith soldiers attacking the town. It's imperative that you eliminate all hostiles in the area so you can talk to Gaffer and co. in the main building.

As an aside, you might still hear distant gunfire while passing through the streets, even though you know you've killed all the enemies. We believe that these are just ambient sound effects since we couldn't find any hostiles at all.

Help out the NPCs in Zalissya

At this point, you're given several tasks to help out the NPCs:

Warlock - Warlock wants you to retrieve his favorite weapon from his house. Check the marked location to find Partner, a uniquely named sniper rifle. You have the option of returning this weapon to him if it's in your inventory. Alternatively, you can place it in your stash if you want to keep it. Basically, you won't complete this optional task.

Mykolayich - You're asked to check three of Gaffer's stashes that are marked on your map. Go to these locations and take a peek inside the containers. One of them should have Mykolayich's Surgery Kit, which he needs to operate on the town's technician NPC.

Hamster - It seems that Hamster's holed up in the Emission shelter, and he doesn't want to share his supplies. Instead of attacking him outright, you can threaten him first, then ask his guard how much he's being paid. This will resolve the matter without resorting to hostilities.

Note: Try to avoid talking to Gaffer even after you're done with these objectives.

Uncle Lyonya's house and the second Monolith attack

Aside from the above objectives, you'll also see another task which requires you to check the house of Uncle Lyonya, the guide/fast travel NPC. He resides further south of the village and it's quite a distance away. However, it's imperative that you complete this task if you want to save Zalissya in Stalker 2.

Once inside the house, interact with the radio to hear a message and pick up the Seva Suit nearby. Then, go back outside and be ready for a fight. Uncle Lyonya is actually a Monolith agent, so you have to eliminate him, as well as several of his Monolith buddies.

Return to Zalissya and report to Gaffer. This will cause you to finish all the tasks, including the optional ones that you didn't tackle. Likewise, a second Monolith attack will occur, so be prepared for another bout against several soldiers.

On the Edge quest conclusion and known issues

After taking out the Monolith invaders, you'll hear another radio call from Gaffer telling everyone to return to the main hall. As you approach, he'll say: "Zalissya is safe now, and it's all thanks to you."

So, yes, you just managed to save the village of Zalissya in Stalker 2. As mentioned earlier, you should, at best, only lose the guide NPC (Uncle Lyonya). However, there's a chance to encounter the following bugs/issues if you're unlucky:

Talking to Gaffer before tackling optional objectives can trigger the second Monolith attack too early or not at all. This can cause Zalissya to get wiped out (i.e. all NPCs dead) without any input from the player.

After the second Monolith attack, Gaffer's script when you meet him in the main hall might not trigger.

After the second Monolith attack, an NPC might block the door of the main building, completely preventing you from leaving the interior.

Going to another region to do a different quest might also cause issues with this side quest.

Lastly, we've heard that it's possible for problems to occur in Rostok, too, which causes all base NPCs to get wiped out completely. This did not happen in our playthrough, but be prepared nonetheless since Rostok is an important hub for fast travel and vendor items.

That does it for our guide on how to complete On the Edge in Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl. We hope that you're able to complete this part of the campaign without any hassles.
