How to move the first ice cube to the correct position
Technically, the first ice block is the one you need to move away from to access the entrance to the puzzle. You need to knock three ice blocks to slide them into the water, creating a bridge that will allow you to exit the cave. Stand on the right side of the big ice block and hit it with your hammer to make it slide down the path and into the water. With this one done, there are two more to go.
Ice blocks will continue to move in the direction you hit them until they hit a wall or spike pit.
The spikes will destroy them, but the destroyed ice blocks will immediately reappear in their original locations so you can try again.
To start, you need to climb up the stairs at the entrance and have Luigi stand on the switch. This time it's just Mario acting alone, while Luigi will be on standby, ready to hit switches to make platforms and walls inside the puzzle move.
Have Luigi hit the switch to move the yellow platform to the top of the stairs, then have Mario stand on it. Next, have Luigi hit the switch again to move the platform back to its original position. Mario can then start jumping over the ice platforms towards the next stable platform.
The ice platform has three stages. A smooth platform will crack when you step on it, a cracked platform will crack completely, and if you try to step on a completely cracked platform, Mario will fall immediately.
Jump forward, right, and forward from the first yellow platform to the next yellow platform. Then jump to the stable platform ahead and hit the big ice block with your hammer to make it fall to the ground.
Here are the steps to move the ice cube to the exit:
Hit it from above to move it to the south.
Hit it from the right to move it west.
Hit it from the bottom to move it one block north.
Hit it again from the right to move it west.
Hit it from above to move it completely south and out of the room.
Finally, hit it from the right. It will slide to the left and fall into the water, forming the next part of the bridge.
Once the second ice block is in place, you can activate the switch floating above it to create a new ice platform. Two ice cubes in place, one more to be completed. Return to the large room and climb the stairs again. Have Luigi operate the switch and activate it to move the yellow platform back to its original position.
How to move the last ice cube to the correct position
Once on the yellow platform, have Luigi hit the switch. Wait until it stops moving, jump forward three times, then jump twice in a row onto the moving yellow platform.
This platform will move on its own, so you'll need to jump at this moment to make sure the ice platform doesn't break beneath your feet.
When the platform moves to the other side, jump onto the next platform and hit the ice block with your hammer to knock it down to the ground.
From here you can perform a tricky diagonal jump to reach the item box in the upper left corner of the room. This jump may seem impossible to do at first, but with a little practice, you'll be able to pull it off.
Here are the steps to move the last ice cube to the correct location:
Hit it from the left to move it east.
Hit it from above to move it south.
Hit it from the right to move it west.
Have Luigi activate the switch to move the yellow door to a position that stops the ice block from moving south to the spike.
Hit it from above to move it south into the yellow door.
Hit it from the left to move it one space to the west.
Hit it from above to move it south.
Standing over the spikes on the left, position yourself diagonally so you can hit the ice block from the left, causing it to slide west.
Hit it from below to move it north.
Hit it from the right to move it west.
Hit it from above to move it completely south and out of the room.
When you hit the ice block from the right, it will slide west and fall into the water, completing the ice block bridge. Congratulations, you successfully completed another little ice cube puzzle in your life.
