"Monster Hunter: Wilderness" is the latest work under the Monster Hunter IP. Exploration and field investigation missions are both based on the gameplay under open world rules. The former allows players to hunt monsters directly without accepting missions, while the latter allows players to directly accept missions on the map and start hunting missions seamlessly.

You can "explore" by setting off directly to the wilderness without accepting a mission.
You can also hunt monsters and collect while exploring and taking on tasks,
But because there is no mission goal, you will not receive mission rewards.
Field investigation tasks
As you explore the wilderness, you can perform "field missions" that allow you to target any monster and start hunting seamlessly within the current environment.
The field investigation mission is considered completed immediately after completing the main objective, and the mission will end on the spot.
Start field investigation mission
You can start a fieldwork assignment in any of the following ways.
・Continuously attack large monsters to cause certain damage
・Select the icon of a large monster on the wilderness map or global map,
and select "Field Mission" from the submenu.
Field investigation tasks in Environmental Links
When environment-linked as a link member to a link leader's environment, the link member can begin a field investigation mission by any of the following methods.
・Continuously attack large monsters to cause certain damage
※At this time, a dialog box will pop up in the link captain interface asking whether to start the field investigation mission.
When the link captain chooses to agree, he can start the field investigation mission of the target monster.
Rules for other fieldwork assignments
Conditions under which field investigation tasks cannot be started
Field missions cannot be started under the following circumstances.
・Have performed a field investigation mission on the target monster (whether completed or not)
・The hunter’s attack has caused a significant reduction in the physical strength of the target monster
・The player's hunter level has not yet reached the level required to perform field investigation missions on the target monster.
・Currently there are tasks being undertaken
When unable to start a field investigation mission on the target monster, please check the environment summary in the wilderness map for details.
Additional rewards for field investigation missions
After completing the field investigation mission, you can receive additional rewards.
