The ice mage in "Dragon Age: Shadowkeep" is a very useful super mage in the game, but it is still troublesome to build. The first thing is to choose the race you want to play. There are four options, but if you want to be an ice mage, you need to skip the dwarven ancestry for one major reason.
How to play Ice Mage in Dragon Age 4
Best races and classes for ice mage builds
Almost all races can learn magic, with one exception.
There are four options when it comes to choosing which race you want to play as, but if you want to be an ice mage, you'll need to skip the dwarven ancestry for one main reason. In "Dragon Age Guard", dwarves are not allowed to become mages and they cannot use magic. As for profession, choose the mage profession. This is a no-brainer, avoid the other classes in this section and go straight to the mage class.
Best faction for ice mage builds
Factions will affect your dialogue options and also bring about some important gameplay changes. So keep this in mind when choosing the appropriate faction for your character. There are six factions in the game:
Gray Guard
Curtain Jumper
Shadow Dragon
Antwa Robbery Magpie
Lucky Lord
Eyes of Mourning
For the mage build, we chose Shadow Dragon. Sounds cool, and it does provide an increased rate at which career resources are recharged. This means we'll be significantly increasing the character's mana recharge rate. If you're doing a mage build, Shadow Dragon is a must.
Best Skills for Ice Mage Builds
In Wardens, the level cap is 50, so you'll have plenty to spend on skill points and focus on the core mage tree. Our advice is to diversify your skills, stacking the same elemental skills one on top of another may sound good, but you're going to have a tough time when you're facing an opponent in combat who has resistance to all specific elemental skills.
Frost Nova: Unleash a freezing AOE spell for all enemies you fight. Making them vulnerable to other attacks.
Entropy Ball: With upgrades, the projectile fired from your hands will become massive and destroy anyone standing in front of it. This is a skill that lends itself well to end-game fun.
Ice Explosion: A great single-target damage skill that also causes pretty good AOE damage. But the highlight is the debilitating status it inflicts on the enemy, which gives our companions the opportunity to inflict huge damage on the enemy.
Shadow Vortex: Create a huge vortex in the middle of the battle, causing the heaviest damage to the enemy. This is going to be the ultimate skill on our list.
Good alternatives:
A good alternative to the ultimate move is the Soul Bomb, which deals a decent amount of damage while restoring your health. Another skill that should get some attention is Chain Lightning: great for area of effect damage, as it automatically hits all nearby enemies and stuns them. Chain Lightning also overwhelms enemies, causing them to be stunned for longer than normal. Another handy skill is Perfect Casting, which is perfect if you rely too much on your light attacks.
If you are early in the game and want your mage skill set to reflect your initial encounters in Dragon Age: Shadowkeep, you will want to consider switching between the following skills:
Vanishing Blow: Attack that causes heavy damage after dodging
Quick Recovery: Mana recovery speed increased by 25%
Psychic Explosion: Staff recharges outside of combat
Charged Spirit: Defense Release Shock Wave
You need to go to the skill tree to make a skill or ability more powerful.
Correct skill levels to move up from the skill tree
You'll start with Destructive Light and Arcane Shot. But you'll need to work up to the skill level to support the elements we've enabled. At the top of the skill tree we'll find Frost Nova and Ice Blast, both of which are great for ice-based mage gameplay.
Any skills surrounding Ice Blast or Frost Nova act as passive buffs to the skill abilities in the skill tree section. So if you are interested in a certain skill, after you unlock it focus on the surrounding skills to make it better. Get all passive skills to deal more damage with your skills. For example, with Frost Nova, passive skills like Breathing Space and Shatter Control will be very helpful.
For Chain Lightning, passive skills like Precision Strike and Concussive Strike will be of great help in combat.
As you get closer to the end of the game, when your character level is around 30 or 40, you will need to work on higher level skills in the skill tree, which will always be located further away from the starting position. The same rules apply here, once you unlock the skills we mentioned above like Entropy Orb, buy other passive skills around it to make it even more powerful in combat.
Note: Always pay attention to the passive skill list, cooldown reduction is usually in the passive skill, they are usually next to the ability skill.. Obtaining them is the best way to reduce cooldowns and deal more damage during combat.
Best Weapons for Ice Mage Builds
Here we favor effects over anything else. The game offers a large number of weapons for mages, but as a mage, it is better to equip a weapon that fits our style and helps us in different ways. A weapon like the Fire Branch may not sound great here, but the passive effect of increased mana regeneration will help us greatly in combat.
Some weapons are related to skills, such as the ancient mage knife, which can seriously affect the damage and stun time of Arcane Bomb. But later in the game, you may want to focus on gear like the Twist of the Curtain to gain more rewards and hit enemies harder.
Best Armor for Ice Mage Builds
When you choose armor in Wardens, focus on damage resistance and perks that may benefit our abilities.
Leaning more toward ice builds, we'll be focusing on armor with cold damage perks, such as Shadow Grasp. This is to benefit us when we use skills in combat, armor and other equipment should always complement the skills we use frequently in combat. Armor like the Wanderer's Robes or the Helm of Initiation will help enhance our ice abilities.
In the early stages, you'll want to focus on the Lucky Shell armor to get some good ability damage and some companion perks. Initially, you'll want to focus on survival, and skills centered around the survival aspect of the game: healing, mana regeneration, and passive skills. Eventually, you'll want to move to damage dealing and the passive side of abilities.
Here we have other pieces of armor that suit our mage style, and equipping them will increase our mana generation and add more shocking damage. Early gear like the Karast Dual Cap will help our gameplay, and getting decent mana regeneration mixed with the shock ability can make your abilities last longer and reload faster.
Best Accessories for Ice Mage Builds
Initially, you'll want to focus on mana regeneration, then gradually move on to projectile damage, barrier damage, and more. In the early stages, we recommend pairing it with Ice Djinn Amulet and Ring of Heroes, both of which provide good defense and mana regeneration.
Here we find that the True Flight Token has the advantages you need when it comes to talismans. For rings, you can switch to a last resort, which will give you 20% more damage and defense after using this amulet.
Note: As the game progresses, accessories will bring their own pros and cons, for example in the Ring of Last Resort, you will gain 20% damage and defense, but at the same time, if you defend or dodge, you will lose special award.
Keep this in mind when pursuing higher level gear in the game. While it may easily make you stronger, the drawbacks can also have serious consequences.
Enchant your gear and abilities
Here you can experiment with enchantments that suit you. You can enchant the armor, weapons, and abilities in Wardens of the Curtain. When casting enchanted armor and weapons, you can increase defense or damage bonuses to suit your playstyle.
If you like certain abilities, like Frost Nova, adding the "Additional Cooldown on Hit" enchantment will make the ability more powerful than the default attack power. If an ability you use regularly has a long cooldown or doesn't do enough critical damage, casting magic is the best place to correct those mistakes.
Applying magic to the ability will unlock more passive abilities. Here we can add more elemental effects to the ability, such as an additional 15% cooldown, cooldown duration or 75% shock when hitting. This kind of magic can change the game. gameplay, especially if you rely too much on in-game skills.
With that, your Ice Mage build in Dragon Age: Shadowkeep is complete and ready to bring damage and destruction in your footsteps! Also, don’t forget to keep an eye out for the Wolf of Fenharel location to gain additional skill points in the game.
