Introduction

Welcome to the SILENT HILL 2 PS5 Remake (2024) Trophy Guide! A remake of a PS2 classic, Silent Hill 2 Remake offers new endings, new collectibles and modernized gameplay. In order to get Platinum, you will need to collect all three types of Collectibles (Memos, Photos, Glimpses), unlock the 6 original Endings, and complete the game under various conditions (within 10 hours, not using radio, not using guns). Fortunately, the endings get saved to your overall ‘profile save’ rather than specific ‘manual save’ slots, because of this you can get multiple endings in one playthrough by reloading manual saves. This makes it possible to get all trophies in only 2 playthroughs. A New Game+ playthrough is needed to trigger some of the endings. Unlike the PS3 version there is no 10-star requirement so the Platinum is much easier and faster overall.

Step 1: 100% Collectible Playthrough & Regular Endings

On the first playthrough go for all collectibles and combat/miscellaneous trophies. Collecting all Memos can only be done in a New Game (NOT in New Game+). This is because the Memo “Lost & Found Note” at Lakeview Hotel doesn’t spawn in New Game+. Follow Silent Hill 2 Remake Collectible Guide to get everything.

There are no difficulty-related trophies, so feel free to play on ‘Light’ (Easy) Combat/Puzzle difficulty. Using Accessibility Settings is fine too.

For  Radio Silence you must beat the game without using the radio. The radio is unlocked automatically during a cutscene when fighting the first enemy. Open the inventory and turn off the radio immediately. If you miss it during this playthrough you can still do it in New Game+.

On the first playthrough you can only get the three regular endings – “Leave”, “In Water”, “Maria” – by doing certain actions throughout the playthrough to influence the ending. Fortunately you can manipulate these towards the end of the game, and with a prepared manual save at the final save location (before the second last boss), you can reload after completing the game to get the other endings.

It is best to work towards the Maria Ending while playing, as this can’t easily be manipulated at the end of the game while the other two can. The important steps for working towards the Maria Ending are:

  • When in Brookhaven Hospital and the Labyrinth, check in on Maria regularly as you progress
  • Do not let Maria take too much damage when she is with you
  • Do not inspect Photo of Mary, Mary’s Letter or Angela’s Knife in your inventory
  • Do not listen to the full conversation in the long hallway before the final boss fight

Following these steps, you should get Maria Ending upon completing the game. Afterwards you can reload your manual save for Leave and In Water.

For Leave Ending, you should:

  • Inspect the Photo of Mary and Mary’s Letter in your inventory multiple times
  • Listen to the full conversation in the long hallway before the final boss fight

For In Water Ending, you should:

  • Inspect Angela’s Knife in your inventory multiple times
  • During the second last boss fight, stay on low health and keep this until the final boss
  • Listen to the full conversation in the long hallway before the final boss fight

If you don’t get any of these endings doing this, don’t worry too much as you can try for them again during your New Game+ playthrough. Even if you only did one Ending on the first playthrough you can still get the other five in New Game+.

Step 2: New Game+ with no Radio/Guns & NG+ Endings

Once you complete the game for the first time, you will have the option to start again in New Game+. While this isn’t NG+ in the traditional sense as it doesn’t carry any items over, it does contain exclusive items that can only be found on New Game+. These are required for the various NG+ Endings: Rebirth, Dog, UFO (and the two new Remake endings, but these aren’t required for trophies). During this playthrough you will want to collect these items and complete several steps required for the endings, as well as work towards the trophies for completing the game in under 10 hours, without using the radio and without getting kills with guns. You will be able to use the Chainsaw in NG+ which will make the no gun trophy very easy. Make sure to turn off the radio in your inventory as soon as you get it in the room with the first enemy encounter if you haven’t done so during the first playthrough.

Once at Lakeview Hotel, you can make a manual save before entering Room 312 and before collecting the last item for Rebirth Ending. This will allow you to get the UFO and Dog Ending quickly, then get Rebirth Ending by collecting the last item. If you missed any of the three regular endings on the first playthrough, you can ignore the last Rebirth Ending item and continue to get these endings.

See Endings Guide & New Game+ Collectibles.

Step 3 (Optional): Clean Up

If you missed anything during the previous playthroughs, you may need an extra playthrough for clean up.

Find the chainsaw.

Missable!

Location: Silent Hill Ranch (New Game+ Only)

After completing the game, you will unlock New Game+. Just after the graveyard at the beginning of the game, you will hear the sound of a chainsaw as you approach Silent Hill Ranch. The chainsaw will be sitting in a stack of logs opposite the ranch sign. This is a very powerful melee weapon that will kill all monsters in a single hit, and bosses in a handful of hits.

Merciless

Finish off 50 enemies with a stomp attack.

Sometimes when attacking an enemy on the ground with , James will stomp on them rather than swinging his Wooden Plank/Steel Pipe. It’s a bit random what he does, but as long as you try to finish enemies off while on the ground, you should get enough stomp attack kills. This cannot be done with the Chainsaw equipped, so if you need these on New Game+, make sure to unequip the Chainsaw. The best enemies to do this on are the little bugs, as they all die in one hit and James tends to stomp these roughly one third of the time.

These kills track across all playthroughs, so you do not need to do them in a single run.

No Big Deal

Kill 75 enemies with ranged weapons.

Ranged weapons include the Handgun, Shotgun and Rifle. There are hundreds of enemies in a single playthrough, so it is likely you’ll get this naturally if you are killing most enemies and using your guns. It is best to try get this during your first playthrough when playing normally, as you won’t be able to do this when going for the No Gun trophy.

These kills track across all playthroughs, so you do not need to do them in a single run.

Blunt Force Trauma

Kill 75 enemies with melee weapons.

Melee weapons include the Wooden Plank, Steel Pipe and Chainsaw (New Game+ only). There are hundreds of enemies in a single playthrough, so it is likely you’ll get this naturally if you are killing most enemies using melee. You will have to do a playthrough without using guns anyway so melee kills will be your only option on that playthrough.

These kills track across all playthroughs, so you do not need to do them in a single run.

You Never Know…

Try to open locked doors 50 times.

Throughout the game there are many buildings with locked doors. Walk against these doors and it will count for the trophy. This trophy should come naturally during your playthrough so don’t even worry about it. You can already unlock it in the first area of the game “South Vale East Side”. There are lots of shops and other buildings with locked doors.

This tracks across all playthroughs, so you do not need to do it in a single run.

Shattered

Destroy 50 windows.

First you need the Wooden Plank, it’s an automatic story-related item, you get it during a cutscene when you fight the first enemy in the game. Then you can press to smash glass windows. These can be windows of any shops or cars you see. Smash all windows you come across. There are more than enough windows in the game, you can already find over 50 windows in the first area of the game “South Vale East Side”. You will regularly be smashing windows to climb into rooms or get supplies from cars, so you will likely get this naturally.

This track across all playthroughs, so you do not need to do it in a single run.

Radio Silence

Complete the game without using the radio.

Missable!

The radio is an automatic story item, unlocked during a cutscene when you pick up the Wooden Plank and encounter the first enemy in the game. It emits sound when enemies are nearby. As soon as you get the radio, open your inventory and turn off by highlighting it and pressing . There is an enemy in front of you as soon as you get the radio, but if you go into your inventory and turn it off immediately this won’t fail the trophy. Once it is turned off, as long as you don’t turn it back on it you will get this when you complete the game. If you want you can turn on a visual radio indicator in Accessibility which will show an onscreen prompt when the radio detects an enemy.

James of All Trades

Kill at least one enemy with Wooden Plank, Steel Pipe, Handgun, Shotgun and Rifle in a single playthrough.

Missable!

There are five weapons that you will find throughout the game. As long as you’re using each weapon you should get this naturally.

  • Wooden Plank – acquired near the beginning of the game before the first enemy
  • Handgun – acquired in Wood Side Apartments
  • Steel Pipe – acquired in South Vale (West), replaces the Wooden Plank
  • Shotgun – acquired in Brookhaven Hospital
  • Rifle – acquired in Toluca Prison
Pieces Unarranged

Collect all the Strange Photos in a single playthrough.

Missable!

There are 26 Strange Photos to find throughout the game. These are polaroid photos that you can pick up. You will need to find them all in a single playthrough. The trophy pops the moment you collect the last one.

Archivist

Collect all memos in a single playthrough.

Missable!

Can only be done on New Game, not on New Game+

There are 68 Memos to find throughout the game. These are mostly notes you pick up and give hints towards progressing the story or finding optional content. Unlike the other collectibles, this can only be done on New Game, as one of the memos (Lost & Found Note from Lakeview Hotel) does NOT appear on New Game+ (it gets replaced with an item for Rebirth ending in NG+). You will need to find them all in a single playthrough. The trophy pops the moment you collect the last one.

Faster Than Fog

Finish the game in under 10 hours.

Missable!

10 hours is pretty lenient and you may even get this on a first playthrough. If not however then you can expect to do NG+ in 4-6 hours when just going for the endings and ignoring everything else.

As Close as You Like

Finish the game without killing enemies using ranged weapons.

Missable!

To get this simply don’t fire a bullet from your ranged weapons (Pistol, Shotgun, Rifle). This is best done on New Game+. In NG+ you get the Chainsaw which kills all regular enemies in one hit and bosses in only a few hits.

Party Like It’s 2001

See all classic endings (Leave, Maria, In Water, Rebirth, Dog).

» Silent Hill 2 Remake Endings Guide
Echoes

Witness all glimpses of the past in a single playthrough.

Missable!

There are 26 Glimpses of the Past throughout the game. These are interactable objects that will flash and play a sound, all of which are references to spots from the original Silent Hill 2. There is no way to track how many you have collected. You will need to find them all in a single playthrough. The trophy pops the moment you collect the last one.
