Part of the core gameplay of Black Myth Wukong involves unlocking and using spells. Spells are a great way to defeat difficult enemies, and in some fights play major design. However, to cast spells, you are going to need to use mana, which is fairly limited to players. If you intend on running a spell-focused build, here are all the major ways to get mana in Black Mth Wukong.

Improving mana stat in Black Myth Wukong

To get mana in Black Myth Wukong, players can do a few different things

  1. Craft Celestial Medicines
  2. Find celestial medicines while exploring
  3. Spend skill points on mana upgrades
  4. Certain passives from spirit effects.

For the most part, mana progression largely comes from Celestial Medicines and skill trees as you level up. Each upgrade gives you 10 mana. You’ll get quite a lot of mana over the course of the game to cast more of your favourite spells. It also rewards you for pressing a Pluck of Many and not worrying about limited mana cast for major boss fights too.

Celestial Medicines and getting mana

Celestial Medicines are both something you find in chests, and you can craft using Mind Cores. As you explore, you’ll find very small chests, shaped in like a small octagon. They are often on small shrines with incense burning next to them. Opening them up awards either a stamina, health or mana upgrade. They are set in stone too. The ones that give you mana are called Celestial Taiyi Pills. There appears to be at least one in each chapter. You can find examples of where you can find these are as follows:

Taiyi Pill Locations
Black Wind Mountain Found in a chest by a ledge in the wooden pagoda after beating White Noble in the White Mist area. Go down the large wooden pathway towards a pagoda-type structure at the end to loot the chest it is contained in.
Yellow Wind Ridge Chest inside the Fright Cliffs Crash Wayshrine town. It’s in the chest to the right by the Rat Wizard elite enemy.

During Chapter 2, you can unlock the Celestial Medicine crafting, by completing Xu Dog’s questline. You need to speak to the NPC in the cavern underneath the village. From there, you kill the yellow frog boss in the stone pond area. You’ll get a recipe to return to Xu Dog. From there, he disappears, and you can find him again at the end of the Chapter when you get the Sterness of Strone and Keenes of Tiger. You’ll be able to access the Crouching Tiger Temple’s inner sanctum,  and then find a wayshrine below the temple as you exit. To the right is Xu Dog near the brazier. Speak to him again, and you’ll unlock Celestial Crafting.

When it is unlocked, you can spend two mind cores to upgrade your mana. You will cap out of upgrades on mana after seven upgrades. You’ll get Mind Cores naturally by defeating specific bosses. Other times you can get them from elites, looting chests, or just by completing chapters. You can even buy them from Vendors after a certain level or main story progression unlocks.

Spirits and skill tree modifiers that give mana

The other method of getting mana in Black Myth Wukong is via your build. As you level up, you will get skill points. These skill points upgrade various perks, passive and attributes. You can upgrade your mana five times via this method. In fact this is one of the best skill tree options for mana builds in general.

If you still need mana, then consider changing your spirit. Spirits like the Gore Eye Daoist have a passive that increases your maximum mana amount. It’s active and gives you a magical attack too that enhances stave attacks over time. You can find this spirit by defeating the mini-boss in the Yellow Wind Valley area at the end of chapter 2. Open the metal door from the Valley of Despair when you have the Steness of Stone and Keenness of Tiger. Go down the path, cross the bridge and down the path again to find the mini-boss.

The other way of getting mana in your build can come from your gear. One of the sets you unlock by completing the secret level in Chapter 2 has a special perk on the boots. The boots can give you small mana restoration by performing three perfect dodges. It’s handy for mage builds. There are regular consumable potions that can give you temporary mana too from Chapter 3 onwards.

There’s also an immobilization talent that awards mana restoration after completing a full combo on a stunned target.

These are largely ways to support your mana build and playstyle. But, this should give you an idea of managing your mana bar effectively.
