Madden 25 provides a lot of different ways to avoid or shed defenders, the most notable and humiliating of which is the stiff arm. This move, when done properly, throws a defender to the ground and allows you to keep running. Not every player can do it successfully, and sometimes it results in a feeble attempt that doesn’t do anything but lead to an embarrassing tackle. Nevertheless, here’s how to stiff arm so you can do it properly.
PreviousHow to stiff arm
When applicable, Madden 25 will prompt your ball carrier to try a stiff arm. The control is the A button on Xbox and the Cross button on PlayStation. Unlike some other moves (the QB slide for example), you can do this at any time whether it prompts you to or not. Holding A or Cross while running with the ball will have your player ready to stiff arm whoever comes close enough.
Each player has a different stiff arm rating in Madden, just like they have a speed rating, catching rating, and spin move rating. The better the player is at this facet of the game, the more success you will have pulling it off. Everyone can do it, but it’s harder to imagine someone like Xavier Worthy completing this move as compared to Derrick Henry.
The top players in this regard are Derrick Henry, Nick Chubb, Jonathan Taylor, Najee Harris, Josh Jacobs, Alvin Kamara, Saquon Barkley, and Deebo Samuel. Notably, the majority of players who do well with this are running backs.
When to stiff arm in Madden 25
As mentioned, most juke moves in Madden can be executed at any time. The stiff arm is no exception, but that doesn’t mean it will work in all situations. The best time to use it is when a defender is coming to the side. If your ball carrier has bounced it outside and is running down the sideline, the chances are that a defensive back is going to come over. When they do, time the stiff arm correctly (the in-game prompt is pretty good at telling you when) and shove them off.
You can execute this move from the front, since the running back or whoever has the ball can put their arm straight out. However, it’s easier and has more success generally when done from the side. If the stiff arm attribute is good and the defender isn’t very strong, you might be able to push them off and keep running.
