Jumping into a new game usually takes some getting used to, but there are times when all the messages flashing on your screen get overwhelming. A common issue you might find in the early parts of Black Myth Wukong is coming across something that says “Cannot absorb Spirits without guidance.”
If this is your first playthrough, it’s likely that you have no idea what this means since the game doesn’t really explain any of it right away. Fortunately, the message is nothing serious and getting rid of it is rather simple.
What does cannot absorb spirits without guidance mean?
Getting this message means you’re trying to obtain a spirit before unlocking the feature. This normally happens when you defeat an optional boss that can be encountered early in the game called the Wandering Wight. The boss can be a tough one to take down so early into the game but it’s not impossible. Unfortunately, accomplishing this will reward you with a potentially confusing message in the middle of your monitor.
Unlocking the spirit-absorbing feature requires an item called the Blessed Gourd. Speak to an old man found near the Snake Trail way shrine and he’ll give you the item. You’ll naturally find this progressing the main story. Don’t worry if you’ve already beaten the Wandering Wight by the time you meet this NPC as you can visit the shrine to recover any lost spirits after receiving the gourd.
What are spirits used for?
Absorbing spirits will allow you to unlock new skills. You can select the spirits that you unlock to get a special passive effect, alongside a special ability after collecting enough of the meter build-up. These will be essential tools to help make your journey a little easier, so make sure that you unlock the feature as soon as you can.
