The NPCs called Drake Warrior Igon and Dragon Communion Priestess have a secret side questline in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree DLC. This walkthrough shows the full solution. Completing this questline leads to Bayle the Dread superboss and rewards you with a powerful incantation. You also get Igon’s full equipment set.
This questline can still be done after the Point of No Return (after burning the Sealing Tree at Church of the Bud).
Walkthrough
Step 1: Talk to Igon at “Pillar Path Waypoint” site of grace. You reach it by heading southeast from the entrance of Castle Ensis. Igon will be crying out loudly and he sits in the middle of the road.
Step 2: From Igon head south, defeat the “Ancient Dragon-Man” (enemy with red name). Then head further south to reach Dragon’s Pit. Go through Dragon’s Pit, at the end of the path you must jump down the Abyss. It’s a long fall but it won’t kill you. Then defeat the true Ancient Dragon-Man boss. Exit the Dragon’s Pit to reach Jagged Peak area.
Step 3: At Jagged Peak head south to Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. There you find the Dragon Communion Priestess, she’s another NPC that’s part of this questline. Talk to her and choose “Devour draconic essence”. She will give you “Ancient Dragon’s Blessing”. This will be helpful to take less damage from this questline’s boss called “Bayle the Dread”. Equip the blessing to your quickslots via the equipment menu. The item is one-use only, but you can get more of it by talking to the Priestess again. This step is optional for the progression of Igon’s quest but it’s helpful to make the Bayle fight easier.
Step 4: Continue up the northeast path to Jagged Peak. At “Foot of the Jagged Peak” site of grace, defeat the two Jagged Peak Drakes. After you defeat them, you will run into Igon again. He will be crying out loudly and sits on the main path. Talk to him to get his item “Igon’s Furled Finger”. You need this to summon him for the Bayle fight.
Step 5: Reach the very top of Jagged Peak where the big crater is (Jagged Peak Summit). Enter the boss arena to face Bayle the Dread, one of the most powerful bosses in the entire game. Immediately after entering the boss arena, in front of you will be a golden summoning sign to call Igon. He will assist you in the fight. Defeat Bayle to fulfill Igon’s request.
It’s a hard fight, if you have trouble with it return after getting stronger. It’s recommended being Level 200+ and having collected a large amount of Scadutree Fragments. You should have at least 15+ Scadutree Blessings to not die in 1-2 hits. Bayle has only 1 health bar but has 2 phases. At half-health he will transform. At this point you should use the “Ancient Dragon’s Blessing” to get extra damage negation, it lasts as long as there are red sparks around you (if you need to retry the fight talk to the Priestess again to get another).
After the Bayle fight, Igon will say: “Graaaaaargh! Bayle the Dread! You shall haunt me no longer!” Igon will then disappear as his quest is fulfilled.
Step 6: To get your reward from Dragon Priestess, return to the Altar. She will have disappeared and left behind 2 items: “Priestess Heart” + “Flowerstone Gravel”. You can also use Bayle’s Heart on the altar to get one of two powerful incantations: Bayle’s Tyranny -or- Bayle’s Flame Lightning. You can only get one or the other per playthrough, as they each cost 1 Bayle Heart but Bayle only drops one heart.
Step 7: To get Igon’s reward, return to where you met him at “Foot of the Jagged Peak”, where you fought the two drakes. He will have died from his wounds but you gave him peace by defeating Bayle with him. He left behind his full equipment set: Igon’s Greatbow, Igon’s Helm, Igon’s Armor, Igon’s Gauntlets, Igon’s Loincloth, Igon’s Bell Bearing.
This finishes the questline of Igon and Dragon Communion Priestess.
