Though the Once Human map isn’t short on waterways, rivers, and lakes – heck it’s an island surrounded by the ocean – not all of them house fish you can catch then cook up into useful on-the-go sustenance. For better or for worse, finding a reliable fishing spot, or even several, takes a bit of exploring. And, given the size of the map, it’s no small task.
We’ll walk you through the best fishing locations we’ve found so far, categorised by region along with freshwater and saltwater fishing spots. If you’re struggling with the mechanics of fishing, check out our how to fish guide, which breaks down all the steps, including getting a fishing rod and all-important bait.
Dayton Wetlands
Here are the best fishing spots in the Dayton Wetlands:
Freshwater
- Available fish – Carp, Sunfish, Sucker Fish, Tilapia, Oscar Fish
- Coordinates – -5968, -5626
The best freshwater fishing spot in the Dayton Wetlands is the river just next to the Deadsville hub the southwest of the region. The area is free of hostile enemies, so you can fish in peace here. Deadsville means a teleportation tower nearby to beam in as and when you need to.
Saltwater
- Available fish – Mackerel, Pompano, Barracuda, Sardine, Electric Eel
- Coordinates – 7751, -4928
You’ll find a small fishing area, suitably named Petit Harbor in the east of the Dayton Wetlands region. It’s not too far from the Coastside Plaza teleportation tower so is easy to get to. There are two jetties to choose from but both tend to have a few enemies loitering about, so be wary of them respawning as you fish.
Broken Delta
Here are the best fishing spots in the Broken Delta region:
Freshwater
- Available fish – Carp, Bighead, Cap, Sucker Fish, Oscar Fish, Arowana, Koi Cap, Tilapia
- Coordinates – 4690, -6710
This one is hard to miss, but aim for the massive lake in the middle of the region, just north of Sunbury. There are several jetties and piers along the lake, but most are peppered with bandits more than happy to spoil your fishing sessions. With that in mind, aim for those positioned to the north of the settlement rather than the larger ones to the northwest.
Saltwater
- Available fish – Largemouth Black Bass, Northern Pike, Longnose Gar, Angelfish, Seabass, Guppy, Electric Eel
- Coordinates – 3486, -7256
A quiet secluded beach far from enemies or any settlements, this spot is made for easy fishing and offers up a nice selection of seawater fish. Conveniently, there’s a teleportation tower to the south of the Junkyard point of interest a short few hundred metres away.
Iron River
Here are the best fishing spots in the Iron River region:
Freshwater
- Available fish – Carp, Sunfish, Sucker Fish, Tilapia, Koi Carp, Oscar Fish
- Coordinates – 5680, -3073
You’ll find this fishing spot just northeast of the Greywater Camp in the Iron River, useful for the teleportation tower. It’s a pier jutting out into the river, but even better is a vendor called Margerie who will happily sell you any bait you might need.
Saltwater
- Available fish – Mackerel, Sardine, Barracuda, Electric Eel
- Coordinates – 7688, -3270
This one has an identical set up to the freshwater spot in the Iron River – several docks and Margerie’s shop should you need bait. It’s located in the very east of the region about 1 km away from a teleportation tower so not too tricky to reach.
Chalk Peak
Here are the best spots in the Chalk Peak region:
Freshwater
- Available fish – Rainbow Trout, Salmon, Carp, Bighead Carp, Arowana, Sunfish, Koi Carp
- Coordinates – -178, -2200
Tucked away in the very north of the Chalk Peak is another cookie-cutter dock on the river. Margerie conveniently pops here as well for all your bait needs. It’s a bit of a trek but once you’ve unlocked the nearby teleportation tower it’s no trouble to reach.
Saltwater
- Available fish – Largemouth Black Bass, Northern Pike, Longnose Gar, Angelfish, Electric Eel
- Coordinates – 7688, -3270
A sandy beach looking out to the great blue, idyllic, but also a great fishing spot for saltwater fish. It’s also not nestled in a desolate corner in the far reaches of the region and has a teleportation tower not too far away.
Red Sands
Here are the best fishing spots in the Red Sands:
Freshwater
- Available fish – Carp, Bighead Carp, Largemouth Black Bass
- Coordinates – 4991, -1711
The spot is just east of the Blackfell hub in the Red Sands, which makes access a doddle. Anywhere along the river works well, but stay clear of the Blackfell Oil Fields settlement to avoid zombies and other enemies spoiling your fishing fun.
Saltwater
- Available fish – Mackerel, Sardine, Barracuda, Electric Eel
- Coordinates 7255, 95
Again another one of the cookie-cutter docks, but this time in the very far northeast of the Red Sands. Margerie is on hand to keep you stocked in bait should you need it. It’s quiet with no enemies nearby so expect stress-free fishing.
