There are 10 seconds left, and you’re down six in the fourth quarter at your 40-yard line; at this point, you need to know how to throw a lob in Madden 25. Although bullet and touch passes are much more accurate, lobbing one up to your best receiver is a move that’s nearly impossible to defend (unless you’re facing Ed Reed or Deion Sanders in MUT). So, if you’re having trouble figuring out how lob passes work in the game, don’t worry; we’ve covered what you need to know here.

How to throw a lob in Madden 25

Here’s what you need to do to throw a lob in the game:

Lob Type PlayStation Xbox
Regular Lob Pass Tap your receiver’s icon Tap your receiver’s icon
High Lob Pass (While holding L1) Tap your receiver’s icon (While holding LB) Tap your receiver’s icon

Lob passes are pretty simple since you only need to tap a receiver’s icon to throw one up. However, the key thing to remember is that a simple tap will suffice because if you hold it any longer, you could turn a hail mary into a touch pass pick-six.

It’s also worth pointing out that lobs are arguably the riskiest passes to throw because of their hang time. Quick and agile defensive backs can often make up the ground between themselves and a receiver, frequently turning those high throws into potential interceptions. We only recommend using these passes when running play calls with post or seam routes, like four verticals, where your speedy receivers (Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle) can get some separation from their defender.

You’ll also need to remember that the accuracy of a lob pass will depend on your quarterback. For instance, if you’re using one of the best-rated QBs, like Patrick Mahomes, you’ll have an easier time throwing downfield touchdowns to Rashee Rice. However, if you’re using the Raiders and their duo of unproven quarterbacks in Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew, you’ll have a much harder time lobbing one up successfully, even if your receiver is Davante Adams.
