The Buckeyes, as they are affectionately known, have cemented their place among the most successful teams in college football history, boasting an impressive collection of national championships, Heisman Trophy winners, and legendary players.

A Rich History

The roots of Ohio State football can be traced back to 1890, when the university fielded its first team. Over the decades, the Buckeyes have built a remarkable legacy, amassing a record of 954 wins, 333 losses, and 53 ties. Their illustrious history is marked by numerous national championships, including eight consensus titles and four more claimed by the team.

Legendary Coaches

Ohio State has been guided by a succession of legendary coaches who have shaped the program's identity and success. Among them, Woody Hayes stands out as the most iconic figure. During his 28 seasons at the helm, Hayes led the Buckeyes to five national championships and a record of 205 wins, 61 losses, and 10 ties. Other notable coaches include Jim Tressel, who guided the team to a national title in 2002, and Urban Meyer, who led the Buckeyes to a College Football Playoff championship in 2014.

Heisman Trophy Winners

Ohio State has produced a remarkable number of Heisman Trophy winners, a testament to the program's ability to attract and develop elite talent. Seven Buckeyes have received the coveted award, including Vic Janowicz, Les Horvath, Howard Cassady, Troy Smith, Eddie George, Archie Griffin (twice), and Ezekiel Elliott.
