Salam, a traditional Arabic board game, is a captivating strategy game that combines elements of deduction, elimination, and logical reasoning. Played on a 7x7 grid, the game involves two players who take turns placing their pieces on the board. The objective is to be the first player to create an unbroken line of their pieces, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.

Game Setup

To begin the game, each player chooses a color and places their seven pieces on the board. The pieces are initially arranged in a row along the bottom edge of the grid for one player and the top edge for the other.

Gameplay

Players take turns moving their pieces one space at a time in any direction. Pieces can move forward, backward, left, or right, but cannot move diagonally. The goal is to create an unbroken line of three or more pieces, known as a "salam."

Deduction and Elimination

The key to success in Salam lies in deducing the opponent's strategy and eliminating their potential moves. Players must pay close attention to the board and identify patterns in their opponent's movements. By process of elimination, they can narrow down the possible locations of their opponent's pieces and make informed decisions about their own moves.

Blocking and Trapping

In addition to creating their own salam, players can also block their opponent's progress. By placing pieces in strategic locations, they can prevent their opponent from completing their salam or trap their pieces in a confined space.

Variations

Salam has several variations, including:

* Al-Qaidah: A more complex version that introduces additional rules, such as the ability to capture and remove opponent's pieces.

* As-Sab'ah: Played on a 9x9 grid with larger pieces.

* Al-Khamis: A smaller version played on a 5x5 grid.

Strategy and Skills

Salam requires a combination of strategic thinking, logical reasoning, and deductive skills. Players must be able to anticipate their opponent's moves, identify patterns, and make informed decisions based on limited information.
