The Northwoods League is the proven leader in the development of elite college baseball players. Entering its’ 31st season, the Northwoods League is the largest organized baseball league in the world with 26 teams, drawing significantly more fans, in a friendly ballpark experience, than any league of its kind. A valuable training ground for coaches, umpires, and front office staff, over 350 Northwoods League players have advanced to Major League Baseball, including three-time All-Star and 2016 Roberto Clemente Award winner Curtis Granderson, three-time Cy Young Award winner and two-time World Series Champion Max Scherzer (TEX), two-time World Series Champions Ben Zobrist and Brandon Crawford (STL) and World Series Champion Chris Sale (ATL). As well as 2019 Rookie of the Year and 2019/2021 Home Run Derby Champion Pete Alonso (NYM) and 2023 World Series Champion, 2021 and 2023 All-Star, MLB Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winner and two-time All-MLB first team shortstop Marcus Semien (TEX). 2024 Season and Softball Teams
Northwoods LeagueThe Northwoods League is a collegiate summer baseball league for players who have completed their freshman year of college. The league is based in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes regions of the United States, with teams in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, and North Dakota. History
The Northwoods League was founded in 1994 by a group of former college baseball players and coaches. The league's original goal was to provide a high level of competition for college players during the summer months. Teams
The Northwoods League is made up of 22 teams, which are divided into two divisions: the North Division and the South Division. The North Division includes teams from Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Michigan, while the South Division includes teams from Iowa, Illinois, and North Dakota.
Season
The Northwoods League season runs from June to August. Each team plays a 72-game schedule, with 36 games at home and 36 games on the road. The top teams from each division qualify for the playoffs, which are held in August.
Playoffs
The Northwoods League playoffs are a single-elimination tournament. The top two teams from each division qualify for the playoffs, and the winner of the tournament is crowned the Northwoods League champion.
