History

Channel 3000 was founded in 1954 as WKOW-TV. The station was originally owned by the Capital Times Company, which also owned the Madison Capital Times newspaper. In 1977, WKOW-TV was sold to Gray Communications (now Gray Television). In 1995, the station changed its call letters to WISC-TV.

In 2001, WISC-TV launched a 24-hour local news channel called News 3 Now. In 2006, the station's main channel changed its call letters to WISC-TV3, while the 24-hour news channel retained the WISC-TV call letters. In 2012, Gray Television acquired the assets of WISC-TV3 and News 3 Now from Capitol Broadcasting Company, Inc. The two stations were merged into a single operation, with the combined station taking the name Channel 3000 | News 3 Now.
