Piet is an esoteric programming language designed by David Morgan-Mar in 2002. The language is notable for its unusual syntax, which uses a grid of colored pixels to represent code. Each pixel in the grid represents a single instruction, and the order in which the instructions are executed is determined by the direction in which the program counter moves through the grid.

Piet programs are typically written in a text editor, and the resulting text file is then converted into a bitmap image. The bitmap image is then executed by a Piet interpreter, which reads the pixels in the image and executes the corresponding instructions.

Piet has a very simple instruction set, consisting of only six basic instructions:

* Push: Pushes a value onto the stack.

* Pop: Pops a value from the stack.

* Add: Adds the top two values on the stack.

* Subtract: Subtracts the top two values on the stack.

* Multiply: Multiplies the top two values on the stack.

In addition to these basic instructions, Piet also has a number of special instructions that can be used to control the flow of execution, such as:

* Jump: Jumps to a specified location in the program.

* Call: Calls a subroutine.

* Return: Returns from a subroutine.

Piet is a Turing-complete language, which means that it can be used to compute any computable function. However, Piet programs are typically very inefficient, and they can be difficult to read and understand.

Despite its limitations, Piet has a small but dedicated following of programmers who enjoy its unique syntax and its challenge of writing efficient code. Piet has been used to create a variety of programs, including games, animations, and even a compiler for another esoteric programming language.
