History

KTUL first signed on the air on August 1, 1954, as KOTV, owned by the Oklahoma Publishing Company. It was the first television station in Tulsa and the second in Oklahoma. The station originally operated as a CBS affiliate, but switched to ABC in 1956.

In 1959, KOTV was sold to the Oklahoma Television Corporation, which was owned by a group of local investors. The station was renamed KTUL in 1961.

In 1986, KTUL was sold to the Sinclair Broadcast Group. Sinclair has since acquired several other stations in the Tulsa market, including KMYT-TV in 2006.
