Capture the Flag (CTF) is a popular game mode in many multiplayer video games, particularly first-person shooters, and also a well-known type of cybersecurity competition. The core objective in CTF is for two or more teams to capture the opposing team's flag, typically located at their base, and return it to their own base while simultaneously defending their own flag from being captured. The first team to successfully capture the opposing flag a predetermined number of times, or within a set time limit, wins the match.

Gameplay usually involves a mix of offensive and defensive strategies. Offensive players focus on infiltrating the enemy base, evading defenders, and securing the flag. Defensive players are responsible for protecting their own flag, preventing enemy incursions, and often setting up traps or ambushes. Successful CTF teams require strong communication, coordination, and a diverse range of skills, including aiming, movement, map awareness, and strategic thinking. The design of the map plays a crucial role, influencing gameplay with its layout, chokepoints, flanking routes, and power-up locations. Different game variations may introduce additional elements, such as vehicles, special abilities, or modifications to the flag carrying mechanic, adding further depth and complexity to the game.
