The Kid Who Vanished is a Fieldwork side quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of The Kid Who Vanished Fieldwork side mission.
- Starting Location: Sukhothai / Boat
- Requirement: While travelling by boat, Gina will eventually tell you about a villager that she heard had disappeared and needs investigation.
- Reward: 600
- Quest Description: Sunan’s nephew has been missing for a while. Maybe there’s some clues to be found in the old treehouse.
Bonus Mystery: Path of Tigers
Since this Fieldwork directly overlaps with the Path of Tigers mystery, you’re going to do that at the same time. Just east of Tongdang’s Hut there is an abandoned hut partially submerged in water.
Head here and go inside to find a safe sitting next to a photograph.
Mystery Note #11: Rebels Photograph (50 AP)
This will begin the Path of Tigers Mystery, and your search for Aran will lead you right to it.
Find the Treehouse
Head towards the search zone on the map, as you get near it Gina will point out the treehouse in the distance. There’s no direct route to get there though, so park your boat at the nearby dock and head across the planks to the southeast. Right away you’ll find what looks like the remains of a camp, and among the debris is a Medicine Bottle.
Medicine Bottle #5: Treehouse Base Camp
Follow the path past the camp and into the jungle, through ruins and over planks. After that go through a ruined doorway, and inside climb up to the north, then climb up again to the west to reach a wooden walkway in the trees that will take you further into the north. Shortly after this you’ll have a chance to take a picture of the treehouse.
Discovery Note #40: Tree House (70 AP)
When you reach the ladder to the treehouse, you’ll see a note on the ground nearby.
Discovery Note #41: Thot Man Pla Recipe (50 AP)
Now climb up the ladder and open the door.
Search the Treehouse
Gina draws your attention to a map and some photos stuck to the wall. Grab the photo.
Fieldwork Note #3: Aran Photograph (50 AP)
Gina finds a loose board that seems suspicious. Pry it up to find a hidden compartment beneath.
Fieldwork Note #4: Hidden Map (50 AP)
Get to Wat Si Sawai
The map leads us to Wat Si Sawai, which is a pretty straight shot to the southwest. As soon as you get off the boat, you will find a camp and on some crates you’ll find a note.
Discovery Note #42: Delivery Note (50 AP)
If you haven’t already, put your Royal Army disguise on to avoid notice. Before you come in sight of Wat Si Sawai, you’ll see a path off to the left that will lead to a Buddha statue.
This is the spot for Path of the Tigers. Take a photograph of the message that is painted on the left side of the statue’s base.
Mystery Note #12: Painted Message (70 AP)
That’s all for now, back to the search for Aran. Keep going along the path until eventually you reach the ruins of Wat Si Sawai, and get a photo opportunity.
Discovery Note #43: Wat Si Sawai (70 AP)
Enter the Temple
Your disguise makes approaching the temple trivial, just keep going until you can enter the temple and climb down the ladder.
Find Aran
Head east down the hallway until you can turn south. Here there is a book and a locked box (125฿).
Adventure book #18: Handyman (Requires 800 AP)
Now head to the north. Follow the path until you reach a large room where you can hear Aran yelling for help. Gina and Aran will talk for a bit, and then she will continue to follow you.
Get to Aran
Head to the southwest corner of the room, where there is a door next to two switches that you and Gina will open once she notices them and points out the second one for you. Just inside the door you be prompted for a photo opportunity.
Fieldwork Note #5: Pipe Slot (80 AP)
Grab the pipe segment that’s on the ground and fit it into the slot to get water to the mechanism, causing the door to open. Follow the path until you reach an elevator with a switch to throw, lowering you into the ground. On this lower level you can see another elevator that isn’t working, and you’ll be able to see Aran and talk with him looking down on you from the upper floor.
Raise the Platform
Continue into the ruin to the west then turn south and climb through a hole in a giant wheel. Step across the wheels and go to the west. All the way to the west, there’s a root to climb up. The only direction to go from here is to drop down. At the bottom is a statue of a Naga to photograph.
Discovery Note #44: Naga (80 AP)
Go north past the statue and through a hole in the wall, then climb up to the west.
Follow the tunnel until you emerge next to a huge water wheel. Jump across the blade of the wheel, and go through the hole in the wall at the other side. Now drop down into the room.
In the room is another mechanism, which you should photograph.
Fieldwork Note #6: Giant Cogwheels (120 AP)
First turn the switch on the wall, then place the pipe segment in the pipe slot so that water will be carried to the door to the north which slowly cranks open. Inside there is another pipe segment to grab. Go back out into the main room. Go over to the giant cogwheels mechanism and together with Gina, push it forward until it locks into the gears ahead of it. Then pick up the straight pipe segment and move it to the other pipe slot. Then put the elbow pipe segment into the four way slot so that water goes towards the giant cogwheels. Finally pull the lever next to the cogwheels to cause the platform to rise, and the door to open. You will also automatically get a note with the pipework solution.
Fieldwork Note #7: Platform Pipeworks Placement
Find a Way to Aran
Go through the newly opened door, and you’ll find yourself back at the large wheels, but now they are in motion. Go through the hole in the wheel when it appears and head west. This time, one of the wheels has fallen away, forcing you to swing on your whip to reach the other side. Climb up to the level above the naga statue, but this time the wheel to the south will be moving. Head through the hole in the wheel when it lines up. Go across the wheels, and carefully jump to the partially destroyed wheel, then climb up to the ledge.
Look to the west, and you’ll see another ledge between here and another room with gears on the other side.
Now jump to the wheel to the south, then swing from your whip to the west.
Crouch and approach the turning gear, and you will crawl on your belly when you get close. Jump across another partial gear to reach solid ground on the other side.
Now before you go through this door, look at the dish of bombs on the left side of the door.
Grab one, and then look to the east. These can be used like a molotov cocktail to get fire on an object at a distance. Light it with your lighter and throw it for fire to go everywhere. Test it on the nearby debris covered root to burn it and expose a whip point.
Go grab another, and jump back onto the platform below. Jump across the wheels to the south again, then look up and to the east.
Toss the bomb at the flammable debris and burn it away. Then climb up with your whip and you’ll be right next to an artifact.
Discovery Note #45: Jōmon Mask (60 AP)
Now head back, and this time go through the door. In the next room pull the switch to cause the platform to drop, allowing Gina to climb up. Now you and Gina will open another door together. Head straight ahead down the hall to the end in order to find a relic on the ground.
Ancient Relic #8: Wat Si Sawai (180 AP)
Now backtrack and take the path to the north, following it until you reach a T-junction and have to turn east. There is a large pit here. Jump up and grab the ledge to the north, and start to shimmy across when Gina saves you some time (You could have done it yourself, but this is funnier). You now emerge into a large room with another pipe puzzle.
Solve the Pipe Puzzle
Move into the room and take a photo of the statue on the other side of the room.
Fieldwork Note #8: Bridge With a Statue (80 AP)
On the way to the stairs to the south, look against the wall to find a metal rod leaning against the wall. Take it with you downstairs and smash a breakable wall.
Inside is a relic.
Ancient Relic #9: Pipeworks (180 AP)
While you’re down here, grab an elbow joint pipe segment from the floor and take that upstairs.
Upstairs there are two other pipe segments on the balconies on either side of the room, another elbow and a T-shaped pipe segment.
The first thing you want to do is to open the door to the north, so place an elbow pipe segment facing east in the pipe slot closest to the door, and in the slot closest to the place you entered put the remaining elbow place in the pipe slot also facing east. Then go back to the ladder near the entrance, climb up and turn the switch to start the water. The door to the north will now have its mechanism powered and it will open.
There is a massive waterwheel turning in this room. Jump through the hole in the wheel when it’s clear and grab another pipe segment from the area behind the wheel. Head back up to the pipe room and pull out all the segments. Now we’re trying to get water to flow through all three of the grates in front of the statue simultaneously.
So first place the T-shaped pipe segment. Place it facing north.
Next place the straight pipe piece facing west
Third, place one of the elbow pieces facing north.
Finally place the remaining elbow facing south.
The way to the east will open up, and you will automatically get a Fieldwork note for the pipeworks solution.
Fieldwork Note #9: Khmer Pipeworks Placement
Meet up with Aran
Head across the bridge, and then squeeze through the narrow passage and climb the stairs. Jump up to the broken platform, then whip climb up to the platform above. Turn around and pull Gina up. Then both of you can climb up to the next floor. Since the switch is broken here, you and Gina will have to push the door open manually. In the next room Aran will open the door for you and you’ll end up back in the starting chamber. Aran will open yet another door, so you might as well keep following him.
When you reach the Shiva Shrine, take a photograph of the statue.
Discovery Note #46: Shiva (80 AP)
Now get closer, and looks like there’s a relic here for you too.
Ancient Relic #10: Shiva Shrine (180 AP)
Talk to Aran
You’ve gotten all the collectibles now, so talk to Aran and find out he’s not coming back to the village yet.
Talk to Sunan
On the way back to the village, time for the Path of Tigers conclusion. Stop by the abandoned hut again, and dial in the combination from the photograph: 2480
Adventure Book #19: Jumbo Grip (Requires 500 AP)
Mystery Note #13: Pailin’s Message (50AP)
Path of Tigers ends as soon as you read Pailin’s Message, giving you 250 AP for basically doing what you were already doing. With that completed, head back to the village and break the bad news to Sunan. Luckily it doesn’t seem like it catches him by surprise. He thanks you for your help, and that completes the mission.
This finishes The Kid Who Vanished Fieldwork side quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.
