Sanctuary of the Guardians is a Fieldwork side quest in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. This walkthrough will guide you through all objectives of the Sanctuary of the Guardians Fieldwork side mission.
- Starting Location: Gizeh / The Sphinx
- Requirement: Receive Fieldwork Note #1 from Gina while she plays a recording of intercepted Nazi messages.
- Reward: 400
- Quest Description: Voss’s men are digging by the Sphinx, searching for the “Sanctuary of the Guardians”. It seemed to be of particular importance to him.
Soon after you first arrive in Gizeh, Gina will call you over to the radio and play a recording of an intercepted conversation between Voss and Meier regarding a dig under the Sphinx looking for something he called the “Sanctuary of the Guardians”. She will also hand you a photo of the excavation.
Fieldwork Note #1: Excavation Photograph (25 AP)
Gained automatically during the cinematic with Gina. This will also begin the Fieldwork Sanctuary of the Guardians.
Explore the Sphinx Dig
Head to the Sphinx digsite. Next to the Sphinx’s right paw is a medicine bottle.
Medicine Bottle #22: Sphinx Paw
Next head to the west side of the Sphinx to find a tunnel built into the hillside. In the first room is a medicine bottle.

Go north through a crawl space to another room with a note in an alcove to the east.
Discovery Notes #74: Meroë Page (25 AP)
Head west up the stairs and then into the short hallway to the north to find an artifact.
Ancient Relic #7: West Sphinx Ruins (80 AP)
To the east pull the chain to open the door to the south. Head back to the Sphinx. Climb up the ramp to the scaffolding, then whip swing from the crane hook to the platform across from you where you’ll find a medicine bottle.
Medicine Bottle #24: Sphinx Scaffolding
Enter the Sphinx from the south side, dropping down several layers of scaffolding. Once you are inside, there is a pile of crates next to two barrels with a card on top of one of them.
Fieldwork Note #17: Fortune Card (25 AP)
Head down the ramp, and you’ll find Gina waiting for you. While she looks around, grab the note on the nearby table.
Fieldwork Note #18: Logbook Entry (25 AP)
Find the Golden Medallion
The Logbook Entry note describes a gold medallion that will be stored in the Nazi Recreational Area. When you were there before, there was one tent that you couldn’t get into which will now be accessible. Head back there now. Go in through the side door and you’ll find the medallion on a table near the east side of the room.

Around the room are money pouches and rolls of bills (170£). Take a photo of the poker table before you leave.

Head back outside and look on the picnic table in front of the stage for a card.

Head back to the Sphinx, and use the golden medallion on the indentation in the door to open it.
Explore the Sanctuary
Inside, head east to find a gated door and a switch on the north wall to open it. Whoops, wrong switch. A pit opens up at your feet, and Gina narrowly saves your life. Look down at the pit and you’ll see a hole in the side that you’ll have to jump to and crawl into. You’ll emerge in the bottom of another pit. There will be a torch holder on the wall above you that you can whip to and climb up.
Once at the top, walk south along the ledge to the room above Gina and pull on the chain there to open the door for her. Jump down from the open doorway to the west, then head east through the now open gate. Light the brazier on the left then photograph the mural directly ahead of you.

On the north side of this room is an Ancient Relic.
Ancient Relic #8: Sphinx (80 AP)
Continue into the east chamber. There are four mirrors reflecting beams of light, with some collapsed pillars blocking the way of some of them. In the center of the room is a gold mask secured by a mechanism to a central platform. Take a photo of the mask to start.
Fieldwork Note #23: Gold Mask (45 AP)
First aim the northeast mirror at the southwest mirror, then the southeast mirror at the northwest mirror. Once that’s done aim the northwest mirror at the dish near the right stairs
When you pick up the mask, Gina takes it from you and starts imitating a mummy. Take a photo of her joking around with the mask.
Fieldwork Note #24: Gina Holding the Mask (35 AP)
She sits down and triggers a mechanism lowering the throne and the entire platform into the ground. Suddenly you are trapped in a dark room that is rapidly filling with scorpions!
Find a Way Out
The only visible mechanism is a chain to pull on which opens a door, but it’s a dead end. Inside is a skeleton with a torch though, so at least now you both have light. Gina then finds a wall that looks weak. On the other side of the room is a switch that opens another door into a dead end. No way out, but there is a metal bar that you can use to bash the weak wall to escape.

Get through the hole, then use your torch to burn the debris blocking the tunnel ahead. Keep following the tunnel until you reach another light and mirrors puzzle.
Take a photo of the central statue.
Fieldwork Note #25: Mirror Statue (45 AP)
Turn the statue to light up the dish on the left side of the room. Head inside and examine the remains of the mirror device in the room.
Solve the mirror puzzle
You can’t do much with this yet, so activate the dish on the other side of the room to see the door begin to move, then fail. Finally Gina will move over to a wall that has a gap near the ceiling that you can boost her up to. Once she climbs up, she will head into the next room and look around and find a loose mirror, which she’ll slide under the door for you. Grab the mirror and head back to the first room. This will cause the light from above to reflect into the room. Gina will rejoin you in the main chamber, having found a second reflective dish. She moves further back into the room, allowing you to reflect light off of her to hit the second dish. The light will cause the central statue to rotate again, and the door out of the room will open.
Find a Way Out
Follow the passage until it comes out in a large chamber with a chasm in the middle, then follow the path to the northeast until you reach an Ancient Relic.
Ancient Relic #9: Sanctuary of the Guardians (80 AP)
Head back to the chasm, but this time head west. You will boost Gina up to a higher platform, and she will use the mirror to direct light to keep the scorpions at bay while you jump up and hang from a ledge, shimmy all the way to the right, then swing from a bar to land on the ground on the other side. Gina will shine the light on you as you slowly move towards the stairs and meet back up with her. Head into the dark hallway to the north, then take the left fork at the T, then go up the stairs to the north. When at the top, crawl under the gate and you’ll find yourself face to face with the Protector Stele.

The next hallway is again dark. Jump over the scorpion pit and look at the wall to the north. See one mural panel that has white wear like it has been stepped on by someone climbing the wall. Jump and grab the ledge and shimmy to the right until you can pull yourself up into the room. Once inside, turn around and pull the switch beside the door. This will open a way back across the gap.
Before you do that though, inside the room is an Ancient Relic.
Ancient Relic #10: Hidden Sphinx Passage (80 AP)
Run and jump to the platform across the gap and enter the next room. Flip the switch on the east wall to open the gate to the south. You’ll find yourself back at the beginning of the excavation. Climb up and watch the cinematic that follows. Indy and Gina will sit and chat about their excursion and how much fun it was, then Indy will give Gina the mask to give to Nawal. Then Gina will leave, while Indy realizes he needs thicker boots.
