Deku Scrub Lockup is a kind of stealth mission in The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom that is still full of puzzles. Zelda has lost her Tri Rod, leaving her with a stick and her pal Tri to help her get out. Deku Scrubs are lurking over the place, and Zelda needs to use her wit and surroundings to break out of of Faron Jail.
Getting out of jail is never easy. Our Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom walkthrough will show you how to get out of Deku Scrub Lockup and escape Faron Jail.
How to get out of Faron Jail
You’ll start Faron Jail… locked in a jail cell. And without the Tri Rod to make echoes! Thankfully it is a poorly managed jail.
First, order Tri to go fetch the visible key outside the locked gate. Grab hold of the key, walk it through the opening in the gate, then unlock the door.
Make your way to the right and head all the way down the corridor to unlock another cell containing a red rupee. Then head up the center passageway to a set of three doors. Star with the stairwell to the left.
Deku Scrub Lockup walkthrough part one
Enter the next room and approach the wood crates. Remember: you can’t let the deku scrubs see you! So grab a wooden crate in front of you, instead of going around the path, in order to sneak past the guard.
Continue through the winding path to approach another deku scrub, who is turning clockwise to survey the room. Time your run just right to scurry past him, hiding behind the rock until the scrub is facing away from your path.
Wind through the dungeon to find two more patrol dekus — then run past them along the east wall when they look north and south. When they both turn 90 degrees, complete your dash to the next door.
In the next, head to the right to find a group of potted trees. Use Tri to move them to the side and reveal a door. Enter to find a room with a heart piece.
Faron Jail heart piece puzzle solution
To jump up and retrieve the heart piece, you’ll have to arrange the objects in the room to form a lil’ staircase for Zelda. Use to Tri to grab the trees, bed, torches, and table, and stack them to create levels short enough for Zelda’s jumps. After lots of trial and error, here’s how we did it.
Exit the heart room back to the bigger chamber and head forward down the ramp toward a stone bed. Use Tri to move the bed back up the ramp and position it so that it is hanging off the ledge, allowing you to jump across to the opposing wall.
Head over to the far wall to find the other stone bed, that was previously trapped behind the statues and jail door. Grab the stone bed and position it in the groove in the wall, to create a more seamless bridge. Then grab the wood table in the far corner of the room, and use Tri to carry it over the stone-bed bridge.
Much like the stairs you built to retrieve the heart piece earlier, position the wood table and the unlit torch to form stairs that Zelda can hop up to retrieve the elevated door.
In the next room you will find a deku scrub who is obsessed with cotton candy – that it is eating off the Tri Rod! Just talk to the scrub to retrieve the Tri Rod.
Hit the blue door button to open the gate and enter the north door. The staircase leads you back to the main room of Faron Jail – so let’s next go to the right door.
Deku Scrub Lockup walkthrough part two
The next room contains a number of deku scrubs mulling about. But now that you have your Tri Rod back, you can avert their gaze using some placed echoes. We used a water block to get to the top of a rock wall and avoid walking around the deku scrubs.
From up top, create a series of flying tiles to travel across the gaps in the platforms, and to outrun any scrubs who happen to sense your trickery.
Enter the next room to find a well, with a sign encouraging you to take the plunge. Use a water block to swim up to the top of the ledge and JUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmp….
Unfortunately, Lassie is not here to save you after falling down the well. Instead, move the visible boulder over to the floating boxes and submerge one of the boxes. Plunge into the cave pool, then summon a bombfish to break the boxes blocking the other side.
On the other side you’ll encounter a hydrozol – conjure a sword moblin to take care of that baddie. A second bigger hydrozol is waiting in the water ahead of you, but nothing a level 2 sword moblin can’t handle.
In the next pool, dive down to find a clump of wood crates floating in a tunnel. Drag boxes out until you can navigate through and reach the blue rupee on the other side. If placed on the other side of the waterfall, the boxes will float to the top of the water to create a new platform for Zelda. Use a flying tile to hover over the waterfall to the next platform.
Jump into the next pool and outswim two piranha plants (or take ’em out with the help of a chompfin). The ladder ahead is the way out, but before you jet, keep on swimming to find another set of waterfalls to retrieve a Might Crystal.
To swim through bubbles, first removed the wooden crates from the passageway.
With the path clear, create and ride a platboom elevator-style to the ledge, where you can grab the Might Crystal.
Head up the ladder to escape the well. There you’ll talk to a deku scrub who offloads a membership card to the Sweet Spot! You’re now ready to proceed to the Faron Temple.
