Kay doesn’t start with much from the outset in Star Wars Outlaws – she has Nix, a lockpick, and her trusty blaster. Though you’ll collect more stuff along the journey, you’ll find yourself often relying on the weapon when a situation calls for it. To get the best use out of it, you have to take care of it and upgrade your blaster. Starting with the humble Plasma module, you’ll find other options with various upgrades. We’ll help you determine which are the best ones for each module.
Best Plasma blaster configuration and upgrades
The Plasma blaster is the initial module that you start with. It is a reliable rapid-firing tool in any scrap, capable of taking down lightly armoured opponents. It starts with the Light configuration, but can later upgrade to a more potent version.
You will unlock the Heavy configuration through the main storyline and meeting Lando Calrissian.
The best Plasma blaster version is the Heavy configuration with the following upgrades:
Upgrade | Cost |
---|---|
Super Cooling | 1 Blaster Recirculator 10 Polycarbonate 4 Actuating Modules |
Rate of Fire | 1 Blaster Recirculator 15 Transparisteel 7 Cryo-Coils |
Damage | 1 Actuating Diffuser Module 20 Slivian Iron 10 Ray Accelerators |
You will unlock the Heavy configuration through the main storyline and meeting Lando Calrissian. His “The High Roller” expert ability tree has the Plan B ability, which unlocks the components necessary to craft the Heavy configuration. After that, find and collect the resources necessary to upgrade it.
This configuration is better than others due to higher overall damage output, especially with the Rate of Fire and Damage upgrades. Initially, it will heat up faster than others, but the Super Cooling upgrade helps to offset that by a large margin.
Best Ion blaster configuration and upgrades
The Ion blaster module is your go-to against droids and shielded enemies. It’s far more effective against those enemy types than Plasma. With proper upgrades the difference is night and day.
The best Ion blaster version is the Surge configuration with the following upgrades:
Upgrade | Cost |
---|---|
Rate of Fire | 1 Blaster Recirculator 10 Chalcopyrite 4 Ray Accelerators |
Improved Heat Capacity | 1 Blaster Recirculator 15 Chalcopyrite 7 Cryo-Coils |
Blast Range | 1 BT-P7 Ion Accelerator 20 Transparisteel 10 Ion Cells |
You will unlock the Surge configuration after completing The Viper quest, which is a part of the main story questline. This configuration is better than Burst, because it provides a range to your blasts, making the blaster capable of damaging multiple enemies in a single shot. As such, it also has a higher heat expense, which is why the Improved Heat Capacity upgrade raises the ceiling before you need to cool it off.
Best Power blaster configuration and upgrades
The Power blaster module is the best way to deal with heavy or armoured opponents. It also provides extra utility by letting you blast your way through some of the obstacles along the way.
The best Power blaster version is the Blast configuration with the following upgrades:
Upgrade | Cost |
---|---|
Charge Speed | 1 Blaster Recirculator 10 Chalcopyrite 4 Cryo-Coils |
Projectile Speed | 1 Blaster Recirculator 15 Transparisteel 7 Ray Accelerators |
Explosion Radius | 1 Particle Stability Converter 20 Slivian Iron 10 Actuating Modules |
The Power module becomes available after finishing the Gunsmith main quest for ND-5, after which Blast configuration unlocks by following the main quest. This configuration provides a decent AoE option against armoured enemies, while also making it easier to blast apart obstacles to get to hidden areas.
