Syrian ObservatoryThe Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) is a non-governmental organization that monitors and reports on human rights violations and war crimes in Syria. It was founded in 2011 by Rami Abdulrahman, a Syrian-born British citizen who has been living in the United Kingdom since 1994.
SOHR is based in the United Kingdom, but it has a network of activists and informants throughout Syria. These activists and informants provide SOHR with information on human rights violations, war crimes, and other developments in the country. SOHR then verifies this information and publishes it on its website and social media channels.
SOHR's work has been praised by human rights groups and international organizations for its accuracy and impartiality. However, the Syrian government has accused SOHR of bias and of supporting the opposition.
SOHR's Methods
SOHR uses a variety of methods to collect information on human rights violations and war crimes in Syria. These methods include:
* Interviews: SOHR interviews victims of human rights violations, witnesses to war crimes, and other sources of information.
* Field research: SOHR staff members conduct field research in Syria to gather information on human rights violations and war crimes.
* Analysis of open source information: SOHR analyzes open source information, such as news reports, social media posts, and satellite imagery, to gather information on human rights violations and war crimes.
SOHR's Reports
SOHR publishes a variety of reports on human rights violations and war crimes in Syria. These reports include:
* Daily updates: SOHR publishes daily updates on the latest human rights violations and war crimes in Syria.
* Weekly reports: SOHR publishes weekly reports that provide an overview of the human rights situation in Syria.
* Monthly reports: SOHR publishes monthly reports that provide a more detailed analysis of the human rights situation in Syria.
* Special reports: SOHR publishes special reports on specific topics, such as the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
SOHR's Impact
SOHR's work has had a significant impact on the international community's understanding of the human rights situation in Syria. SOHR's reports have been used by the United Nations, the European Union, and other international organizations to document human rights violations and war crimes in Syria. SOHR's work has also helped to raise awareness of the human rights crisis in Syria and to put pressure on the Syrian government to stop its abuses.
